106 Rallye
205 GTi

Pretty much the whole 90's french clutter family. It seems there are other people who love these old sheds

They are all entertaining "old sheds", if nothing else.
My first car was a 205 (not a GTi, but they all had nice chassis). I also think my daily commute-mobile 306 handles at least as well as the scoob, even though it has a lot less ultimate grip. Have been in the Rallyes, and they are both rapid and a lot of fun. Therefore, I can sympathise

I had a 1.3 106 Rallye and despite a few (read Fooking loads) of reliability issues it remains the most fun car i've owned. Brilliant, would love to own a brand new one!

306 is up there as best hot hatch ever as well as 5th in car of the year.
As such, it is an iconic car - in every sense.

No the XSi isnt the same engine ...... less power, 150bhp I think, as opposed to 167bhp...def not the same engine. The rallye uses the same engine as the GT16 but is slightly lighter.

XSi and GTi-6 blocks are different. Best tune an XSi had was the same engine as in the 206 GTi with around 133bhp. The XSi wasn't a patch on the GTi. I've had 2x1.9 205's and a GTi-6 plus a few XSi drives when I was looking! The GTi-6 is a natural progression from a 205, almost as much fun (considering things got a bit more refined) with superb brakes.

I had a brand new 106 rallye on an L plate in white, superb handling and quite quick.Wish I still had for the grin factor. Then p/x'd for a new GTI 6 on a P plate, One of the first pre face lift 306 GTI 6's. Not alot would keep with it, The 306 Rallye was quicker but had little in the way of comforts.
Sold this for a Discovery V8
Now back on the path with an 03 STI PPP.

The difference between a GTi6 and the rallye must be pretty minimal as I think the weight difference was only about 20KG .......Hardly worthwhile, but I'd still have one

Strip a '6 and strip a Rallye and you have the same car. Rallye's also can have A/C as it was an option.
GTi6 is the dogs bollox - I'm not just saying that cos I own one.

Oh my God!!! The Rover is faster on paper than the 306!!!!!! I feel sick...
Have an S16 - and I thought they were 164bhp?
Incidentally, I think I'm about to be a complete dick and splash out on a manifold, long duration cams and throttle bodies. Been to Pug Perfromance - all those open bonnets with gleaming throttle bodies (OK, covered in sht would be lightly more accurate!!) and now I can't help myself!!!
I am more excited about modding the Pug than I am about my sccob!
