Retro Cars
What would you consider to be a retro car. do you own one? Is it worthy of being in a magazine? A mate of mine is trying to get a portfolio together to present to various magazines in the hope of getting some free lance work. He's already had a couple of articles published and is hoping to get some more. He would like to go to a magazine with a ready prepared article in the hope that they will take it on.
Any suggestions would be cool. Esp if you own something like a mint rs2000 x pack, or know someone who does.
cheers
matt.

To me, "retro" means new but in an old style... retrospective, done with reference to the past. Retro cars are things like that Nissan Figaro, or maybe the old Panther Kallista type stuff.
An rs2000 is just old innit? Or a modern classic, rather.

I know plenty of RS2000's that would smash modern machinery to a pulp in the real world
Retro cars are old skool, made anywhere up to the early 90's, basically before cars started getting fat and safety conscious

I still think retro doesn't just mean old though!

My 205 should be magazine worthy when its finished, but thats a week or two off yet, still a few bits to fettle including fine tuning the GSXR bodies

I asked myself a similar question after visiting a classic car show a few years ago.
The entry rules for exhibits seemed to be "must be 20+ years old". This led to some ordinary bangers being exhibited and some interesting cars not. As a result, my own definition would be "Any car that is not generally run as someone's main car (even though the particular car may be their main car)".
Thus, a 3 door Sierra Cosworth would qualify as most Cossies aren't first cars. However, a 1982 Ford Fiesta Popular wouldn't.
(And I have a Sunbeam Alpine - but not in magazine condition )

seant / bilgtt - it's good to hear that people on here have got cars worthy of being in a mag. it is retro rides that he's after getting into. i think that you need to get pics in the members gallery if you haven't already.
evo barry - please could you pm me a couple of pics and a few details so i can forward onto him.
douglasb - very cool car. wouldn't mind one of those myself one day. getting quite rare now. any plans for it?
stephen pope - your thread gave me the idea to start this one. i've put a few on there myself. the e30 m3 that i posted is owned by the guy that i've posted this for.

For me "Retro" has to be tuned and tweaked from the norm. Doesnt have to be huge just not quite standard. Could be anything from 60s through to the 90s. But no sound systems (!) and no stupid body kits. Its about making it go quicker and better than std - but it has to be used and not kept for show.
Of course just a personal observation and I think "Retro" mag has it pretty spot on !
I personally prefer the 60s/70s classics end but appreciate the later pugs etc they include.

I'm a big fan of Retro Cars and indeed our club was featuered in Reto cars in August and we were invited onto the stand where we were filmed for Men and motors.
The car in question is the awesome Daihatsu Charade GTti ! Got 3 soon to be 4 and love them to bits more than my Impreza. The next one should be the ex 1989 Lombard Rally Daihatsu works car !
