honda civic type-r (ek3)
hi. i have sold my scoob to get a civic type-r. i joined the owners site to see what sort of tuning is poss for this car. i stumbled across a supercharger conversion for about 5k. this includes full stand alone ecu. they take the revs up to 8600rpm and lower the v-tec point to about 4000rpm. the power and speed of these after the conversion is crazy. here is a video link to a civic caning it around the track. its about two mins into the vid.

i really like the civic type r if i was in the market for a hot hatch it would prob be the one for me but if your buying to mod u have got to think about the FRONT WHEEL DRIVE!! not going to get it to be as fast as a scoob even if u gave it a afterburner
saying that it will still be fun, add all of what your goingto spend i bet u could aford a scoob type r i dont know what scoob u had b4 but not a lot touches a type r off the lights or round the twistys

There are some very quick CTR's out there believe me.
I know of one that's running a Jackson Racing S/C along with some IPS supercharged profile cams. Puts out around 280wBHP or around 320BHP at the crank.
A very quick car and you need a big BHP Scoob to shake it.

Can I be really picky and ask if you mean EK9 or EP3?
Can I also be really dumb, and say 'that sounds like a dumpvalve in the video', which I thought were for turbos?
I stand to be corrected on the the second point

You still need a BOV for a centrif S/C
The old school Type R was a really great bit of kit. Get one!
Lowering the VTEC more than a few hundred rpm's is pointless IMO...

The Honda engine from the typeR seems to be popular with the Elise boys too. 200 odd bhp in a car that weighs the same as a *** packet, beware peops!

the car is a ek3. think it has about 260bhp at the wheels. jsut from a supercharger and a hodata ecu mapped to redline at 8600rpm. tdi north has done a 12.08 second 1/4 mile. the d/v you can hear in the vid is the subaru.its the scoob driver who is filming, as the civic spanks it. there is loads of vids on civic type-r owners site. the 0-60 will not be that quick. dew to the large power running through the front wheels.once it gets going there is no stopping it. cant wait to get it supercharged and take it down santa pod.

Billy, you dont always need an I/C on a S/C car. Mine had an air / water aftercooler but you can get away without it.
I still think you can tune Type R lumps to "near" low psi S/C power and be more effective - it just costs a lot

The BOV on that video sounds like one of those pretend electronic ones as the sound never changes, and S/C usually aren't so loud.

Is it me or is the scoob constantly pulling away from the type-r?
I was tempted to go for a type-r......but when I found out it cost big $$$'s to get any decent power out of them, I decided to go with the scoob

yes its a ep3. the scoob constantlly pulling away from the scoob.yeh right. the scoob i owned was 340bhp with 320lbs of torque with a type-r gearbox fitted. the car was very quick. i used to leave most things standing down the bypass. till i got up to top end speed then i was screwed. this guy at tdi north reckons with the money. say about 6k it will cost. i can have this car quicker than my old one. only time will tell. included in that 6k is the full conversion for the charger. lsd, uprated clutch and flywheel, engine mounts, uprated gearbox bearings. if you take the car upto 8600 rpm in 6th gear.that would be a top speed of 170 mph.

Still I don't think spending that kind of money trying to chase bhp figs in a front wheel drive is worth it.
You'll get to the point where it'll just spin up........
good luck anyway
