TDI PD Revo
Currently thinking about getting a Passat 130PD TDI tuned has anyone experiance of REVO.I have heard various story's about clutch slip etc in the 130PD is this true?

I have had loads of cars remapped - both petrol and diesel.
The PD130 engine is very mappable - to between 180 & 200 bhp - depending on which one you get.
The torque is also much higher - so you are bound to get problems with clutch if it is not in tip-top condition before the remap.
Most cars I have remapped when they have only just covered 1000 miles - so just run-in and everything still new! - without any problems.

Cheers Steve the car has covered 30K easy miles,just dont want to end up replacing the clutch at this early stage.Are REVO any good my mate has a 110PD Bora done with Tunit and his clutch is slipping like mad

Revo do have a good rep on the VAG boards.
On the clutch slip, from the various VAG forums some people get it and other don't, it seems to be linked to driving style. If you boot it hard from 1800rpm all the time, like you dropped a brick on the throttle pedal, it will start to slip. If you ease the throttle on then it will last longer.
The only weakness I have heard of with Passats is the elbow hose that goes from the top of the intercooler up to the engine, this apparently can get weak and let go.
My stock Passat PD blew the hose out, just needed a couple of new spring clips. Worth checking the hose is firm and the clips tight.

my golf gt tdi 130 is running nearly 200bhp and 292lbs/ft torque and i've covered nearly 12,000 miles with no clutch slip up to now, not really a major problem if it did cos its not in end of the world to change it, most on here said it would slip within the first 5000 miles which it hasn't.

Clutch slip can be a problem if you use the surging torque all the time. My Fabia was RICA remapped. Complete custom set up on a fairly stock car. The delivery was ferocious and I had the ability to pull past my chum who had a generic REVO map.
However, I have been lead to believe that the Custom Code generic and custom maps are very good on the longevity front, quashing the massive turbo spike and resulting in a 6 cylinder like power delivery. Peak power is still pretty good, but it feel like it has less power across the rev range in Golf guise.
Depends how you drive, and what you want out of a map.

same clutches as used on the PD130, although I believe the PD130 has a bit more grunt lower down (and less at the top end) which could cause more probs..

yes their quick, drives fine though and you won't regret it, you won't believe the difference and the car is then quicker than most on the road, mine has no problem passing other performance cars and it surprises everyone!!

300lb/ft of torque is that not EVO territory??,is it in one big surge or nicely spread across the rev range??.As for clutch slip the cars never been driven hard as its mostly the wife that drives it.

We've got a Fabia vRS (same engine). Wife drives that, car is standard (owned from brand new) and the clutch is starting to slip (16k)...only problem is that it doesn't do it all the time, so I can't book it in under warranty...

Handy for those trips to the main dealer for any warranty work, but to be honest Ive only really used mine once... Ended up telling the dealer and they diddnt seem bothered by the remap... It is nice to occasionally set the car back to standard to make you appreciate the benefits of the remap again

When you get the 130 chipped is the difference night and day and how much has it cost on your insurance and fuel bills, some say they get better mpg but somehow that doesnt add up,something for nothing never seems to work for me.

Before the Fabia, I had a mk4 Golf GT TDI, and stuck a tuning box on it. It seemed to smooth the torque out to such an extent that the car felt slower. Can't remember the name of the box, but it was a well known make at the time.
I'd be interested to know if a proper custom remap would do the same??

Weird thing is that the Golf we had with similar driving conditions was fine with 20k miles - even though I went through two sets of tires...

What kind of time does 0-100 take, 18/19 seconds would be my estimate. Have seen a video of the speedo on a chipped vw, might be the same one ?
