How Did I Rate against a 320bhp modded Sti?
Had my first proper run against a Scooby in my Leon Cupra R today.
I came up quick behind him and saw he wanted to play on a bit of 'unused and very long dual carriageway, with a few roundabouts'
After a quick blat where I came up behind him at speed, him responding, then me passing, we came to halt together at a natural stop in the track, looking somewhat like the traffic light you'd see on 'public roads'.
Had a quick chat, ascertained spec of said Scooby, new shape Sti UK300 (I think), Big Brembos, big black wheels, big exhaust, currently running 320bhp - nice chap, I expressed my concern at his helpful 4WD on the forthcoming start, but when we went I got it perfect, he didn't and I got ahead and kept ahead, slightly uphill, to hard braking from 120. Hmm, quite chuffed, losing around 100bhp, but not losing much on transmission losses.
Again a set of lights, his better start, even stevens to 100, I move aside and he creeps passed with good line for sweeping bend at 125, he seemed to have a sligt edge at that speed.
Overall, the scooby seemed slightly more planted, but both cars fairly even when rolling, though I think he maybe would have nosed ahead if side by side run and good changes (not sure what his were like but mine were perfect). The LCR also does feel a little twitchy and less planted at (very) high speed round bends, and seems to feel the bumps a little more than the Scooby.
Wave to finish, and i'll keep a look out for him again - Beduff side of Cov, and gorgeous looking all black UK300 Sti, maybe a little surprised?

He was I think, you don't not try getting to 125 in around 20 secs, then power round a bend. Respect was both ways really - gorgeous car, great sound, still love the Impreza. And he did take that fast bend faster than me, slightly better line, and just as important, he had probably a little more confidence in a planted car.

I have been quoted £300 for e-maps to remap, they have got around 270ish from other LCRs, same as Revo, APR, Custom Code etc.
But.......I can't persuade the missus (we are moving house), and to be honest its quick enough normally, it's only on the rare occassions that I race such cars that it'd be worth it - most of the time I pi$$ on most things anyway, and driver skill is worth more than bhp. The traction would be an issue too at low speeds, it's bad enough standard.

UK300's were all blue and were not STi's.

OK, I thought it was a UK300 cause of the way it looked, maybe just an Sti, massive brembos, gloss black wheels (18/19"), big spoiler.

Sorry mate, couldnt resist, its the way you phrased it !
Not actually inferring you are a man enthusiast !
And I quote,
"I came up quick behind him "
"and saw he wanted to play"
"nice chap"
"not sure what his were like but mine were perfect"
"slightly uphill"
"him responding"
"we came to halt together"
"but when we went I got it perfect"
"gorgeous looking all black "
"and i'll keep a look out for him again"

A standard LCR would have no chance against an Sti, especially at 320 bhp.
Chipped LCR vs Sti, much better match, LCR probably winning depending on starting still or rolling.
My best guess is that it was a UK300 and he lied about his power claims, or it isnt a UK300 and he still lied about his power claims

I test drove an LCR and done some reading on them before i bought my Scoob...
Can't understand why everyone seems so "defensive" about this story, seems perfectly plausible to me, granted from a standing start the scoob would normally have the edge but as the guy states he nailed his start and maybe the scoob didn't and got bogged down....
Both lovely cars, personally i prefer scoobs but not to say LCR's are slow or not a match.....

I have TSL333 Sti, mate has standard LCR, he cant keep anywhere near me, although a remap should see that right.
LOVE the LCR though and did think about one before i got the scoob...

I doubt very much it was 320bhp........
I'm running just a bit more than that and can quite easily see off porker 4S's and the like front start and rolling.........
I'm not having a go but i've had my fair share of LCR's and I haven't found them to be a test as of yet. True you don't loose nearly as much through transition but with the torque scoobs can spit out they just keep going and going and going and going.......
Not saying LCR's arn't quick, i'm saying I doubt the scoob was running what it was....

Not sure how relevant, but I logged my LCR on vag.com with 295 lb/ft of torque - I think this is as accurate as you get for a torque reading, and is higher than standard - it's done a few miles and I guess is loosened up, tip top condition running perfectly, so maybe that exp[lains it a bit - plus, we all know ity's down to the driver.

Wont be 295lbft as standard buddy.
Standard is 210lbft
If yours is 295lbft it is secretly remapped! It would explain why you had your encounter with the sti.
A 320bhp sti would not have any problems at all with a 225bhp LCR.
A remapped LCR and then yes it would have problems!
You sure yours is not remapped? The previous driver?
