Default Shocking ownership costs

Just swapped my MY93 WRX for (don't laugh!), albeit 217bhp tuned Mondeo ST24. Strange swap perhaps, but I can get the family and pram in for day trips, rather than taking the Volvo everywhere.
Besides, it soooo much nicer inside...

Anyway, calculated that the Scoob, despite it's age and pretty low purchase price, cost me £1.52 per mile. I suppose if nothing had gone wrong I could have done much more mileage for not much more money, but given that I found a cheap but competant mechanic, and bought all parts as cheap as poss, that's a lot of money for a weekend car. I could probably have run a Boxster for less money, assuming I managed not to start modding it...

More frightening is the cost per mile in residuals: £1.18 every mile. Add fuel to that at £0.27 / mile in fuel used, £0.05 / mile in tyres !!!!! £0.03 in insurance and £0.02 in road tax !!!!

At least it had 3 years free servicing
I think you could have run a £55k 4.4 V8 range rover for the same money

Just make sure that the water pump is upgraded. The MK I & II's have plastic impellars(sp?) that degrade through time. End result is a blown engine.

Look on www.fordmondeo.org for more info.

Enjoy

Not if its an ST24. Lost virtually all by now and bottomed out.

It cost £00.67 per mile on my last 04 WRX PPP, sold when 11 months old with 14.5K on the clock - including depreciation, fuel and insurance. Servicing was free, but would've only added around £00.0125 per mile if I'd had to pay.

The previous 02 WRX PPP cost £00.60 per mile when sold at 20 months and 30K. Includes all monies paid out + depreciation when sold.

Pretty good I reckon!

Mine cost me nothing but BIK tax and I still think it's too much in the final analysis. Life's too short to take the diesel option unless of course you have no other choice.
