There I am, sitting at a set of lights.......posing away with my new graphics when a couple of "lads" pull up next to me in a bright orange focus st with a shopping list down the side, revving and blipping away......

What the hell......lights turn amber and they're off.....I wait till green and catch up in first, 3/4 throttle in 2nd and i'm level, 3/4 in 3rd and i'm gone......

I thought these 2.5's were supposed to be quick??

and before it's said the he wasn't trying, he couldn't drive and all that rubbish....He was but they're just not fast enough.....

Got to agree, saw one in the flesh the other day - nothing special at all.

It's gone straight into chavdom, as has the VXR, which is quite good because it takes the focus off Subarus.

Is anyone seriously believes that VXRs or Focus STs have a better image than Imprezas then they need to remove their head from the sand.

they arent supposed to be quick, most of them dont make their factory power output which is very poor for a 2.5 (albeit an old volvo engine )

is it really a surprise to blow away a 220bhp car in a 335bhp one?

they were never designed to very fast there are something in the middle car quite fast but with a good level of toys and refinement

Its a "Hot Hatch" and as such it is meant to be fairy rapid i would have thought . It's in direct competition with the WRX and VXR price wise isn't it?

fairly rapid and very fast for me are totally differant-the impreza wrx is not a very fast car so it is in the same group as the st

Probably not even run in yet, wont have been messed with yet either, perhaps a Bog Stock brand new WRX would be a more even comparison ?

now you have gone in a differant direction a standard car and a modded car can't be compared when you compare a car you should only compare them in there standard form

I know what tripple's saying, showing a car up where the driver/occupants think they are it, puts a smile on your face even if it is expected.

Its the same feeling when you can accross some big head drivers (not all) in Audi TT's, X5's, and Porsche Boxster's who are clearly trying to show you that their car is really fast. I know there is more to these cars than straightline speed (eg Boxster 's Grip and handling) but if someone is giving you that "out of my way, and quicker than you up the rear bumper" look, then its nice now and again to show em they are not.

Re the ST, "orange" is clearly trying to say something though, blip the throttle and you mean business so expect others to have a go. I actually like the look of them, and the excellent reviews, or bit it drinking fuel for a fwd car, they are decent for a large(ish) hot hatch.

I dont think the point of his post was a comparison of the cars, from all accoutns the ST was trying to give it some and Tripple nudged past him at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, so there is by no means any basis for comparison at all. I merely stated that the market for these sort of cars is similar to that of the WRX, this topic has been debated on these boards before and its horses for courses dependent on what you want from the car

Compairing standard & modded car is pointless IMHO. When I had a Blufin'd Focus RS a guy who I worked with had a Suski Ignis Sport, and was p1ssed off cos my car was faster. He then would argue that if he bought a Nissan Skyline and had it tunned to 400-450BHP he'd p1ss all over me

Obviously !!!!!!!! I then replyed that I'd just buy a Mac F1, and leave him for dead. Quite rightly, he pointed out that I couldn't afford a F1. Yes, I said, only you can't afford a Skyline either so shut the **** up !!!!!!!!

alloy i think you have misunderstood me it's the original post from tripple that offer's no value as tripple's car is modded and with the age of the st i would say is standard so why post on here to say he has raced and beaten a hot hatch-posts like these are now common place on this site much to the dread of most of the members on this site and one of the reason's i moved from impreza to lancer owership

I think he's commenting on the owners of the vehicle and their interpretation of the car being faster than his impreza and how they were suprised when they were beaten. I agree it's a pointless comparison, but i fail to see where he states any comparison he simply states he pulled on the ST at half throttle, no launching, no excessive revs and no speedy gear changes

And as for you leaving Impreaza ownership For a Lancer being contributed to by posts of this nature i feel you are being a little hasty in your actions. After all its a forum and owners post experiences and i'm sure Lancer owners have a blast and comment on how some guy in a lesser powerful car tried to egg him on, only to be disposed of with ease and partial throttle, it's naive not to think it happens. A little shallow and snobby of you if you will, but enjoy the EVO
