Inherited a car. Will the main dealer buy it from me?
Sadly, doctors have told my grandpa he should consider giving up driving, which he has agreed to.
He has stated he wants me to have the car, but I have no use for it at all and wondered what the best course of action would be.
Its a Toyota Yaris. Im not sure of the model, but Grandpa was a bit of an ageing boy racer, and I seem to remember it being a VTi model or something like that. Its 4 years old, I believe a 5-door model and very, very low mileage. I collect it tomorrow so will know more then.
Would a Toyota dealership be interested in buying the car off me? If so, I assume I would get a lower price from them than selling privately? The idea of a quick, hassle-free sale is quite appealing though.

Sorry to hear your Grandpa's ill.
You'll get rock bottom price at the stealers and line their unscrupulous little pockets. Don't be lazy, do you and your Grandpa a favour and put it in Auto Trader. You'll sell a Yaris all-day long and can give the difference to charridey .
Cheers

ETA. Altenatively, find out what the stealers will offer you and I'll give you a £100 more and just as little hassle.

Dealers will give bottom book trade as an outright purchase, some will be fairer than others, as some will try it on to see how desperate for cash you are. But your looking at a few grand less than a private sale
I've done this to get valuations of cars for probate purposes and when buying fleet cars off the company (works in my favour) in every case the dealer's price is what he will pay for it, as I needed it writing.
But you'll get a far better deal doing a part/ex or selling private.

Stick it on ebay with no reserve and you should still get over and above what any dealer will give you.
As said ^^^: don't be lazy, sell it properly and you'll get what it's worth.
Failing that - I'll give you a grand for it

I would suggest going over to www.toyotaownersclub.com but they won't allow car sales unless your a paid up member.

They would offer a better deal if you were actually going to buy a car from them as they have more flexibility in the price, but you'd do better to advertise it locally at a fair price, make someone else happy and get a quick sale.

hmm, I assumed that would be the case.
Just looking for an easy fix I suppose. I have sold a few cars on ebay and seem to attract more than my fair share of fuds.
Will try the Autotrader. Never thought of that for some reason.

I had to sell a car reasonably quickly once, no time to advertise etc and all the trade I offered it to as a straight sale offered peanuts and I really got stiffed so would say the same as above.
BTW - Fud - haven't heard that since i was in school!
It's now my word of the week and I'm going to use it as often as I can especially in meetings!

Well, that was a surprise. Since I last saw his car he has sold the Yaris and I am now the owner of his Toyota Corolla.
Its a silver-grey 1.6 VVti Automatic. 5-door, 2004 model with only 9k miles on it.
The interior needs a bit of valetting. He used the car mostly for transporting his unfeasably hairy Alsation around and the whole boot and back seat area is so thick with doghair its unbelievable.
Apart from that its mint, so should be pretty sellable.
He is really cut-up about not being able to drive anymore though

These cars sell well to old and young alike so you should have no trouble shifting it.

I've sold a number of cars (Fiestas, Escorts, Mondeos etc) to local independent dealers when I've needed to get rid and have always got a pretty good deal given age / mileage ... always above Black's trade price.
By the time you've had all the tyre kickers / wasters / hagglers round it's sometimes just easier to get rid, and you don't lose THAT much cash ..... certainly not compared to the waste of your time.

Get the trade value from Arnold Clarke then Horse it in the P&J - Someone will buy it I'm sure .
With some of the funds - get grandad down to knockhill for some passenger laps - I'm sure he'd love that .

Dealers really **** me off, my grandfather died recently and the local Nissan garage bought his 2 year old almera with all of 3.5k miles on it off my poor old granny who was worried about it being sat in the drive for £3100, yes, £3100. I only wish I had known at the time. grrr. Do you family a favour and take the time to advertise it yourself.
