What type of money do RS4s go for?
LOL I'm going to show my complete ignorance and ask how much smaller the RS4 is compared to the RS6? I always thought the RS4 was a saloon??
Never paid any attention to Audis in the past...

Prices vary a lot, depends age, model, miles cond. etc.
The RS4 is based on an A4, The RS6 on an A6. They do Avants too.
Dont really want a price comparison (I am happy with what it will cost), just wanted general view on these cars.

The price comparison was for me!!
Anyways, from someone who has never been in either exact models - the BM looks a lot newer.
Don't the RS4's have 380 odd bhp? Do you want to go back to petrol?
The Audi looks awesome, btw - so thumbs up from me too

Prefer the looks of the BMW, but prefer the performance of the audi.
The audi is looking a little dated now IMHO. That shape and sytle has been around a while now with just a few tweaks.
At first I hated the BMW's new shape now I love it. It you have the 535D I would have said keep the BMW, but seeing as you only went half way house with it and got the girls version I would go for the audi until you can afford the new M5
Both Damn fine car though! and would be happy to own either if I could afford it/ No correct that justify it.

However the car I was thinking about buying was a skyline and the previous owner RS4 (customer of mine) had owned one so I contacted him to find out what he thought of the skyline and one thing led to another and he fancied my BMW so its almost a done deal.
I have another oilburner(BMW) that I can use as a daily driver.
I liked the BMW 530D but it was a little tricky in the poor weather.
ps this RS4 has 600bhp and 640lb/ft.

My opinion is that Audis are very well built, tend to understeer when pushed and don't give much feedback. But that's based on reading lots of car mags, not actual driving experience.
And looking at those wheels it's probably got a damn hard ride. But then I'm getting a bit old now.

I have to agree with RobEvo5. The RS4 is a great car on many levels, but it is a 10 year old design - the power standard is awesome, modded it is epic - but it comes at a price of course. The BMW i really like and think it is the better car by far and you could make better use of it more of the time i would imagine. save your £££ and swap the diesel for an M5 in a couple of years

Being serious I think I would keep the BMW, and go for a no compromise car and something with 2 seats and totally impractical.
On the Road I would give the BMW any bit if not more respect in terms of looks as the Audi.
Being honest with yourself how many times are you really going to appreciate the 600/600RS4. I would love a car like this but it would be the main family car and I just would not be able to appreciate the car with the family in it, which would be 9 out of 10 occassions.
This is why I have gone down the toy road with a RX7 which takes only me 2 and from work and have fun with it when the time is right, and will likely get a smart/fast enough family car to replace the Shi**y scenic we currently have.
My opinion of whether to change or not would depend of whether:
a. Its the only car in your household.
b. Its you daily cummute car for you only.
c. How many miles you commute in a day.
d. If you have kids
e. If you do then how much of the time they would be spending in the car.
As mainly a family car I would be looking for something that looks the part goes well enough to overtake when I want to and to be honest the 5 series you have would fit my personal situation perfectly
The choice to change is not only about the car, but also the owners lifestyle.

Damn, both nice lOOkin motors. I'd take the Audi personally, depends on how easy it is to drive with the 600 big ones in there.
Hey, i'm just down the road from you, so i'll have to come round and see it sometime.

Rob. you are right in many areas,Its not the only car, I will not use it to come to work every day, I have one daughter (I do the school run). And as mentioned in my post its really a replacement for my scoob, its just that the 530D was of interest to the previous owner,so thats the way it was funded.
It will mostly be used for fun, and occasional jaunt from work and back.
My wife has a Lexus for everyday use and a TVR for fun,oh and an old S8 for if the weather is poor. We also have an X5 which was used mostly by her but might now be more shared.
Running costs are not a huge concern with depreciaton being uppermost.
