Audi A4 Avant 3.0 V6
Thinking of maybe getting rid of the Scooby. Mainly due to lack of space for bikes and the rest of the gear.
Anybody had any experience to the Audi ? Whats the running and servicing costs like compared to a newage STi ? Oh and what sort of MPG do you get ?

Perhaps you can't read. He wanted to know if anyone had experience of the car (Note: 3.0 not 2.0), not whether anyone had a blind love of a marque they had never owned any examples of.

Had a look at used A4 avants last year, although I didn't drive a 3.0 version. I was looking at s4 models and they're very nice I must say, although they're not all that big in the back in load/seating terms.
I was slightly put off because the new one (B7?) looks so much better! It doesn't make the old model a bad car but it kind of stopped me wanting to spend £20k+ on one.
With your bikes comment, I would look at size first. You might be better off looking at something a bit bigger... A6 maybe or a Legacy?

Another thing is the maintenance, it is very expensive. The cars up to a year or two ago (as far as I have driven) used to have this REALLY annoying bouncing motion when on the highway, wether they we were empty or fully loaded, which sucks quite a bit, and no it was not a problem with the car is was built like that!
As far as the 3.0 it seems like a good engine, but is is atmospheric so there are limits to what you can do (mods) without headaches, if you want to call them that.
The person in question that had the A4 1.8T moved onto a Legacy 3.0R which is magnificent, and strangely enough the build quality is better and the boot is enormous. The fuel consumption is about the same as the Audi too.
Just my opinion, either get a MY04 onwards SW or a Legacy/Outback, and you wont regret it.
Thanks

Got an S4 (V6 2.7 Bi-turbo) - loads of grunt Boot is bigger than my old classic wagon (IMHO)
Suspension must be a lot harder than the regular Audis, as I don't get the "sea-sickness" motion on motorways!!
Oh, and it returns a good 24/25 mpg - easily on a par with my modded Scoob
Not quite the 3.0 N/A V6, but alot closer than the 2.0T
edited to add that the servicing is on a par (depending where you go)

Servicing at main dealers will make scooby costs seem cheap, and you'll be lucky to see more than mid 20s as far as MPG goes.
Not that big in the rear either.
Buy a bike rack for the Scoob

You'd be right!
Water pump went on the RS6 last month.
Audi quoted £1800! Front of car off job.
Had it done at a local specialist for £800 including cambelt, pulleys and tensioners. Still mighty pricey

That very problem was featured on "The Garage" on discovery channel the other day.
Turned out to be the thermostat - RS6, complete front end stripdown.
Only charged the guy 600 euros or similar though.
