What car for the wife 9k budget
The wife has 9 k for a new mota and has been influenced by my "sporty" cars over the years.
I have suggested a Mini Cooper but she has other ideas. The wifes shortlist....
Mini Cooper S
Fiesta St (in White)
Clio Sport (I've had one)
Mini Cooper (my choice)
I am concerned about a new sporty car being taken off her and poor fuel economy(kettle/black )
Any thoughts/opinions ?

There a fair choice at that price, a few that spring to mind depending what you're looking for...
Toyota Celica 2003
Suzuki Swit S 2006
Alfa 147 JTD 2005
Fiat Stilo Schumacher 2005
A3 TDi Sport 2003

If you want 2/ 3 yr old performance car I would go for a Clio 182 at that price.

I might be selling SWMBO's silver 05(55) plate 8.5k mile vRS soon Or my black one so I can have the silver and reduce my car-washing duties

Got as far as reading the title and was going to reply something along the lines of .......
I have a Rover 420SLi that I am rather partial too. Infact it has become part of the family. However I am willing to have a look at your missis and if she looks up to scratch I might contemplate a swap.
As for the £9K is that her yearly running costs?

Bob,
It depends what she wants it for. Scoobynet readers will all be biased towards the best performing / best handling car. me included What does she want from it?
We've just taken the plunge on a new Mini Cooper and for me it was a revelation. Refined, brilliant handler, classy interior and 40+mpg easily. As an ownership proposition I think it makes sense too. The depreciation is 'small' and servicing / insurance is cheap. The orginal Coopers aren't as economical, but they'd still make a good choice IMHO, as would an MX5 for similar reasons.

Sounds like she wants a cute little nippy car. I'd say the Cooper really... shouldn't lose too much, ought to be fairly reliable... why not? Bit short of space perhaps.

Far from the sexiest of the bunch, but I had a Fabia vRS.
Really nippy as standard, very easy to bring much more from the PD lump and still averaged over 45mpg combined.

I can now confirm this
30-70 - 5s Spins warm tires in 3rd, in the dry
Can't hold a candle to a sorted Scoob in the twisties, especially my old one, but for the motor it is and the economy combined with superb residuals, I cannot fault it one bit. I was catching the standard Scoobs at our (WYIOC) last trackday, and almost kept with a supercharged ITR

03 though!
4 coming on 5 years old.
Was not sure of the age he was after
Mini have things like this going
MINI Cooper S Manual 2003 39,675 Electric Blue Cl/Lea SATELLITE-Blue/Blk £10,250
Surely a Cupra or Fabia RS would be the better buys.

Mini : Cooper S
Ok probably not the best, but an example of what you can get. You won't lose that much when you sell it on, have a quality little car and the missus might love you more in the process

I can 100% recomend the Suzuki Swift Sport that was mentioned. Very high spec, great fun to drive, decent fuel consumption, etc and you can pick a pretty much new one up for around 9k.

Came very close to getting a VRS but not big enough, amazing little cars.
Standard its quicker than a Mini Cooper, remapped quicker than a Cooper S, plus I reckon it has a better image (to those who know) but perhaps not a female lusting after a Mini, they are not bothered about torque, they dont know what it is generally, conversely car perverts like us on here get so wrapped up in performance stats we end up driving some very odd cars because they are fast.
I have learnt this week, go drive it as for me on paper a Clio 182 was my perfect car (another possibility for your wife ?) but I just didnt like it.
