mx5 child friendly?
I'm thinking of getting an MX5 for the missus to run about in. We have a 3 month old baby, so just wondering what the boot space is like and any issues regarding having a base and seat on the passengers side. Are there any passenger airbags? This would be a 1995ish MX, not a new one.
I had an Elise for a while, given what I heard about them being impratical you could fit a pram base in the back and a child seat in the front. Just wondered if the MXmight be the same. Also, didn't the law change recently and kids being in the front of the car?

It is child friendly, to an extent. Problem being that all 3 of you won't be able to go out at the same time and trust me you will want to take the MX5 a few times over whatever other car you have.
Later models do have a passenger airbag and you can't disable it unless you buy the Mazda child seat which has the chip in it to do it automatically.
Boot space is pretty good although quite shallow

Thanks for that Scott. I've also found out that a mamas and papas primo viaggio travel system fits if thats any use to anyone. Not worried about 3 of us not being in it at once, we've got my car for that.

You can get a Mk2 MX5 now for around the 5K mark easy-ish. I've got one and it is a great car. Not sure if the boot in the Mk1 is THAT much smaller, but the MK2 has it's spare and battery tucked away under the boot "floor".
I can easily get a couple of overnight bags into the boot with space to spare. Mine does have a passenger airbag, but I only have to transport my girlfriend around and not a baby so I'm not particularly concerned about that aspect!
Get down to a dealer, check out a used example for boot space - then get a test drive and enjoy! BTW, if you do decide on going for one, check out the owners forum MX-5 Owners Club for some well cared for examples (including supercharged beasties!!)

Ditto most of the above. I have an ISOFIX seat for the grandson, Indy Plus, £198 in the shops, £110 delivered from the makers via Ebay. Forward facing so the airbag would deploy as normal and being ISOFIX he wears the normal belt, he's 3 and a bit and will fit until he is 12. He loves the wind in his hair. I wish I had some!!!
Kiddicare - Jané Indy Plus Car Seat - Black / Silver (G71)
PS he's got a small stroller buggy and that fits in the boot.

The Mk1 MX5 (with pop up headlight's has a very small boot, and as said previously the battery and spare wheel eat into the boot space, they are not under the floor in the Mk1.
Would be very suprised if you can get a pram in but then i'm no expert on prams!
