205 Turbo Technics - Anyone got any info?
Before I bought my Impreza, I nearly bought a Sorrento Green 205 with original Turbo Technics conversion from new.
I have now sold my Impreza and have seen the above car for sale - not sure if its the exact one but its what I've always wanted. I've had 3 GTIs and always said I wouldn't say no to another.
I'm sure the MI16 conversion is probably more reliable and probably capable of more but I always wanted a turbo 205. Especially an un-buggered example with a genuine TT conversion. Plus Sorrento Green is a cracking colour.
So, anyone have any info on these cars? I've tried in the past to get onto the 205 forum but for whatever reason, its never let me past the introduction stage.

I've no personal experience of them, but I do remember that the conversion always got pretty good reviews whn they were new.
Although having driven a couple of std 1.9s, I do recall that one thing I definitely wasn't thinking with either was 'nice car, but it needs more power'

A lad at work had one years ago along with the Dimma Design bodykit.
it was really really quick and loads of midrange torque although it struggled in the wet in 1st 2nd and sometimes 3rd
He did have a few problems tbh including a cracked turbo which resulted in a new turbo..

If I got it, it would be strictly weekends and dry days. Just fancy a change rather than jumping from one scoob to another - get a car I genuinely always wanted. Look after it and go to a few shows etc.
Price is a bit steep which puts me off - I was looking at paying the same 4 years ago before buying my Impreza. Its on Pistonheads. I know its rare and may hold its value if looked after but stil.

It's a bargain IMO. Some costs for the stuff thats been done:
Fully rebuilt rear beam lowered 25mm £300
Grp N mounts all round £100
Bilstein Sprintline shocks all round £700 (mine is the SBC kit but similar)
Rebuilt front suspension with SBC springs ditto
206 Gti 180 brake upgrade on the front with custom braided hoses front and rear. £300
New rear OS caliper, with new brake compensators, rear brake lines, hand brake cables and master cylinder. £200
Rebuilt gear box with custom gear ratios. £400
Quaiffe ATB LSD £500
Lightened and balanced toothed flywheel (ready to be used with a crank sensor if upgrading engine management)
GE Grp A gear rods and adjustable quick shift. £100
New engine mounts (Grp N lower, standard upper) £50
Custom inlet with large K&N air filter.
Samco boost hoses and Bailey Evo dumpvalve. £200
Goodyear Eagle F1's all round. £150
That adds up to a decent amount for the price. Buy doing all my upgrades myself I've ended up spending more than twice what that is on the market for, although mine does have more power.

Let me have an e-mail address and I will send you all the info I have including original sales brochures, loads of links, etc. I owned one for a few years after running a 309 Mi16 - I should never have sold the 309 to be honest. The TT is quick (11.2 1/4 mile in mine) but very temperamental and loves to eat engine mounts due to the excessive torque. They also love to overheat and drink live a fish.
