Let me guess, its an 04 plate or a 54 plate focus? 1.8 tdci?
Some had minor "ecu" problems, should be fixed under warranty if it is.

Try over at the focus forums

FFOC :: Ford Focus Owners Club

Seem to remember the Glow plug light flashes diagnostic codes when things go wrong.

This happened to my wifes diesel mondeo. It also used to suffer from a stutter but this was the first time it ever cut out.

Took it into ford, it needed a new ecu to fix it.

The old common rail 1.8 clatter bangers have a habit with doing that.

The flashing glowplug indicates a fault - which will remain logged in the ECU, will need a fault code reader to check it.

It's either an ECU bug, as mentioned above, which will need new software loaded at a dealer to sort it or it may have lost the timing signal from the crank or cam sensor. The other fault could be associated with a loss of communication with the immobilser module. Either way it'll need a garage with the correct equipment to clarify this. Otherwise your just stabbing in the dark.

No, the immobilser is a inductive loop which reads a chip embeded in the key and has nothing to do with the key fob battery: The remote battery just works the central locking.

Good stuff!

Pedal fault is another common one. But usually when that happens the engine does not cut out: it still idles fine, but you can't accelarate.

Often noted when pulling away from a junction and nothing happening when you press the pedal. Liek teh engine has stalled, but you can steel feel/hear the engine running and its still idling on the rev clock (plus the flashing glowplug light)

Turning off the engine and restarting it temporarily cures it.

I nearly got T-boned by a tipper truck whilst driving works transit when that happened whilst pulling on to a busy roundbout (they suffer from the same problem - as do Mondeos etc)
