Default VW Passat 1.8S 20v

Any good?

Just had a look at one in the local Skoda dealers, on a 2000/W, 40k miles, climate control, very tidy, £3k.

Seems like a bargain to me?

Need something reliable and cheap to keep me going over the winter months, then I'll think about something a bit more sporty, maybe even another Scoob

Yes, used to have one before the scoob!

Fairly economical, comfortable, nice interior, and quiet!

Mine had 18's on it and it looked nice but not boyracerish!

had it 18 months and not one problem!

Got the 1.8T 20v, 1999 though, cost me £900 with Full Service history, 12 months MOT and 12 months TAX proper cracking buy. Served me well over the last year. I put some 18's on it too as the tyres were worn on the 15's that were on it.

Holy cow, that is a bargain. Makes the one I'm looking at sound expensive. I assume it had a mega amount of miles on it or something?

The one I'm looking at also comes with 6 months tax, 6 months warranty and 12 months MoT.

Both my father and brother have had a similar car, functional and good for motorways etc. Don't expect it to be driver's car though.

Sounds like a real bargain, find a good specialist to maintain it and you'll be fine. Make sure you get some nice floor mats

Graz, mine had 130k on the clock now got 142k without any trouble, the car had full VW service history upto 100k and local garage service history to the 130k. Unmarked aswell but unfortunately in green lol. The 2000 model was the facelift though IIRC?

I sold my 100k Saab 9-3 on a Y plate for £1300, that had a turbo engine (miles faster) but no a/c. Three grand is pricey despite the low miles, funnily enough our neighbour is selling one soon.

I think you're paying for the fact it's so low mileage (and from a dealer).

I've just had a look on Autotrader, and £2995 buys a newer shape 1.8T Passat SE, with 105k miles and FSH.

I know it shouldn't but those sort of mileages scare me as I just keep thinking that it's around the point where more expensive stuff starts to wear out e.g. clutch, wheel bearings, gear box, engine issues...

Anyway I'm not dwelling on it any more as I've gone a bought the damn thing. Pick it up on Saturday hopefully

I have a 2001 1.9TDI 130 Golf Estate remapped to 160, has 111k on the clock, not a thing to complain about, as for clutch, well its mapped to 160 and I tow with it.... and it so far seems fine, even with the 18's (RS4 replica's)

The only thing thats gone wrong recently is it blew one of the pipe connectors off when i tried to wash the rear window with a frozen jet, 10min fix and super glued so it wont happen again

I would only worry about high mileage depending on the brand, as its German I wasnt slightly worried about the mileage. we are in 2008 now driving a 2000 VW Passat, not 1995 driving a 1986 ford escort
