Civic Type R Mk1. Shall I do it?
Hi all,
Just curious to see if anyone has owned one of these. I've just seen an 04 plate for sale with 30,000 miles on the clock. FHSH and just had its service. Do these go on forever being Honda and a chance that its had the b*****ks ripped out of it?

I had one (03 plate) and treated it well but a mate of mine also had one, ragged the **** off it redlining it ALL the time and it did 90k miles before he sold it and never had any problems.
I just found it hard work to drive 'cos I'm a lazy git.

Yes thats what i'm concerned about most. I've got a VW Caddy TDI and although its not rapid its nice to have the low down torque. Caddys got about 190ft Lbs at 1900rpm. I'm going to have to ring the neck out of a CTR. Decisions decisions!! I used to own a scoob but like the thought of cheaper running costs as I have just bought a new house.

i think its the mk 2 your talking about, whats your budget? if you dont mind me asking, if you can try and get a last edition model as the spec is ALOT better as you get;
tinted rear windows
recaro bucket seats
momo steering wheel

I wouldn't worry too much about it being ragged,.... within reason. They are designed to be driven hard, and if they haven't been driven hard then it was a pretty pointless purchase in my opinion. As Mr. Honda once said himself- Without racing, there is no Honda.

My brother in law just sold his and went back to a WRX. Found the civic to higly strung and the lack of low down torque infuriating. After using it for a weekend i could see what he meant, great when its in the right gear at the right revs, but who wants to drive in top of the rev range all the time. Plus side great sounding engine and brilliant when caught in the right revs/gear and fantastic reliability,but a little too tiring.

I had an 04 and was the worst car I ever drove (apart from the Talbot Samba with a dodgy clutch)

I had one from new for just over a year.
It visited the dealer more times for warranty work in the first year than my 03sti has in 5 years.
Maybe I had a bad one-it was the first year of production.
Dipster.

As is said hondas aint that well known for there low down torque but they are seriously fun to drive and the EP1 breadvans your talkin about are descent enough motors using the K20 engine thats also found in the DC5 integra ,
ive had the integra type R and the civic VTI (1.6 VTEC) and there totally raggable and never ever ever break down !
