Off the line, you might get the drop on him; Vipers are tricky to launch properly. But as soon as traction isn't an issue, he'd murder you mate. The torque on those V10s is immense from very low revs!

Don't see many of em over here. One of the best looking cars ever IMHO

Be thankful it wasn't a GTS-R Viper.

Had one of those up my chuff about 6 months ago on the M25.

Really should be no contest imho - power to weight ratio of roughly 400bhp, on 2 wheel drive, compared to a 4wd car with transmission losses even at 330bhp....

The torque from the 8.4L V10 (560lb/ft)

Seriously powerful car.

All well and good the predicted comments of "You'd have it in the twisties"......

True (maybe!), but as soon as there's a less-twisty bit of road.... bye bye....

One thing that the yanks can do right, is build a motor (not necessarily the car to handle the motor! - torque-wise, the phrase holds true - "There's no replacement for displacement"

addendum - even with the previous model (8.4L V10) pushing out 510bhp, you've still got 535lb/ft of torques........

Which is about this much... (blatant Clarkson rip-off!)

Having owned a C5 with about 400 ish bhp I can say they are something else when it comes to straight line acceleration once rolling, also in 3rd gear riding the torque curve makes you laugh out loud. One of the few cars I wish I had kept and would have another tomorrow.

I must admit, if I were ever tempted to another marque, it would probably be a Vette.

How did you get 400bhp out of one of these?

It was a lovely looking machine yellow with racing stripes down the centre of the car. One thing I did notice was when he pulled up along side me the rumble from his side exhausts was awesome I could feel it in my seat.

It always puzzels me this. Why would anyone buy a car like a Viper/911/Veyron/Ferrari etc when you could buy a second hand classic, tune it to 330'ish and beat everything on the road into the weeds.

It's a Viper FFS !!! You wouldn't stand a chance.

V10 V's Breathed on 2.0 Turbo.

Afternoon happiness did I say I could beat everything on the road far from it I realise my scooby isn't the quickest car on the road I just like quick cars , Hence would of liked to see how quick they are as I have never seen one close up let alone giving it some beans.

A mate of mine has just bought a C5 Vette, about 350 bhp, will get a go in that at some point.

I think that a Viper would just cause palpitations over here, to big, too wide, too much power and not enough driven wheels for our narrow roads and permanent rainfall. Fantastic though.

Depends how "breathed" on, Andy F's car??

More realistically for the mere mortals, I think there are some examples on here that would give the Viper a fright and some that would beat it!

Vipers are very tunable though - I know of a twin turbo conversion...good for about 1000bhp! Should see off the pesky japanese cars!

You did check the top speed winner for TOTB6 before saying that, right?

176 is easy - there's plenty of cars out there that can do that for a lot less money than required to get an Impreza up to those speeds.

I don't see 200mph in the vocabulary of any of the Impreza TOTB entries though. If I had one behind me I'd prepare myself for possibly getting out of the way, no matter how much I'd modded my car

sorry but a 8.4 v10 kicking out 500 bhp is poor where you can get a skyline with a 1000bhp from a 2.8 engine. but the vipers do look the dogs.

Agree. A 300BHP American car needs a 5.0 litre V8 engine. While Europe can get that from far less.

I suppose it comes down to usability. A 5.0 litre V8 will chug away all day at 100mph at low revs. While European spec cars rev higher.

Wide f**k yes it was, as stated earlier it is the first time I have seen one of these in the flesh and it took up all his lane and some sounded lovely though proper rumble
