Bored of the impreza.... pining for another Cossie
Cant help it guys.
I love my car and how far ive bought it along the modding journey. But i keep finding myself trawling Passionford and pistonheads for cossies.
Im looking at either a 3door or an escort.
My mates tell me i shouldnt sell and to finish my current project.
They say i wont be happy because the memories of my last one wont be the same. They say its a backwards step and not forwards.
What do you guys think?
I know my scooby is fundementally a better car but it just doenst tug at my heart strings the way the cossies do.
Am i mad?
Heres my impreza if you dony know it already... i dont even know if there would be much interest in it either.

I absolutely love the scoob. It drives nice...too nice. Its easy to drive on the limit. Its comfortable... ish.
But its just dont excite me the way my old saff used to. The saff with only 350bhp used to be a right handful and really exciting to drive. The scoob basically drives itself. I have done so much to the impreza to try and make it scarey and am in the process of building a big forged 2.5 engine for it. This is all in the attempt to make it exciting.
The cossie used to scare me when i burried the gas pedal. The scoob doesnt at all. Dont get me wrong the scoob is quick with 360bhp but just not exciting.
I love the way my car looks but to me.. no scooby could match any cossie in the looks department.
The cossie makes me feel like i want to drive it... the scoob... well, just doesnt i guess. So much so that i havent driven my ipmreza for over 3 months now... purely because i cant be botherd

Do you not think it could be you`ve just got used to the power? Don`t get me wrong, I`d love an escort cossie but the price of them is still imo ridiculous. Personally I think it would be a backwards step

fair enough, IMO you`ve got one of the nicest looking bugeye`s I`ve seen. it makes a different when people do things differently . Do you think it will bother you if you don`t "complete" your proect?

Inc a fully forged 2.5ltr block, (carello rods, wiseco pistons, ACLs, ARPs) FP Green turbo, APS DR725 fmic, oil cooler, KW's, carbon recaro seat blah blah blah.
The list goes on. Im waiting to get a few final bits before it all gets the "go ahead".
Ive built this car to what it is from scratch, it was bone stock when i bought it. I hated it from day one. It was slow and boring to me.
Ive spent the last 2 years trying to fill the cossies shoes and to some extent i have.
On track its faster, handles better, grips better, nicer interior, better lighting etc etc.
However there just seems like theres something missing that it will never have to me.
See my plus profile for the full current spec...

The grass is always greener my friend ! Sometimes I wish I still had my old WRX, and on a bad day I can convince myself it was better than the Spec-d.
I know what you mean about the power and speed, the reason I went noisey again was to remind me how fast I was going ! And there's no two ways about it Imprezas are a piece of pis5 to drive compared to the sierra. I used to have a sierra and the handling was very very different ! In fact I wrote one off
If you are going to change then this is the time to do it. Sell off the surplus parts and call it quits at its current stage of tuning. Still a mental package to pass on to someone else. Can't help thinking it will always bug you that you didn't see it through though mate ?

Ok my first impressions are that you should at least put the bits you`ve got waiting onto the car. I`m sure then you won`t find it slow. If however you do, then you might want to find yourself something silly lol I`ve been in a friends sti8 with 420bhp and around 370lb/ft torque and it certainly doesn`t hang around
I do sort of know where you`re coming from though, I changed from a fiesta rs turbo to a Uk turbo originally and it didn`t feel quick tbh. Maybe you found the cossie to be more raw?
BTW thats some spec and with the other bits that you`ve mentioned it will be some car

With the build spec i have in hand, it should have the thick end of 450bhp and 450+ lbsft torque without any problems at all.
I keep telling myself it will be quick enough... but exciting???
Who knows?

If your that close to getting all your parts together to complete your big build then see it through, you may have a change of heart towards your sti after that.. and that the only way to find out.
It would defo complete the package and give the looks the power it deserves.

LOL @ this thread... I've been spending more time on PF and RSOC recently too Frayz, and have visited the sale thread on that White 3dr more than just a few times!!
I see exactly what you are saying, I have never owned a Cossie, but have been through 2 x ST205 GT4 and 5 x Imprezas since I owned my '92 Series 2 RS Turbo that was around 170 @ wheels and none of them have given me the mental involvement that my old RS demanded when out for a blast. I have really liked all the cars I've bought, and they have all been quick and the current 'Spec-G' is by far the fastest thing I've owned but its really very easy to drive quickly.
However, is it not maybe a wee bit easy to look back through rose-tinted glasses at previous cars.. you were 2 years younger, it was a bigger rush to be driving such a brutal 'iconic' car with 350bhp back then and its easy to over look the times where it went wrong, wouldnt start, gave you paranoia about it being stolen, times where you caught a look at a bit of paintwork that was going to need sorting, etc......
What is it you miss about the Cossie?? If its the lag followed by a massive kick in the back followed by the feeling that the car is squirming around the place, then just fit a larger turbo on your Scoob build and you can re-create that feeling.
So, in summary, you've done a lot of work to the Impreza.. and are very close to finishing off the final stage of the project, so I would carry out your mods, get it all run-in and mapped up and then take a step back and analyse it again.
Cheers,
Grant
P.S - The red EsCos lives about 5 miles from me and its an absolute minter, hardly sees daylight as it doesnt come out in grey/overcast weather.....which happens a lot here in Scotland.

At the end of the day you should have what YOU want and not what others tell you you should have.
That 3 door cossie looks lovely. It's one car I wish I had owned earlier in life.

I'm not dictating what Frayz should have but I think that when he's finished the 2.5 and its properly mapped he'll be a happy bunny.
Mine in 2.0L form was 360 bhp with similar torque.
I'm currently only running 1.4 bar on a turbo easily capable of 2bar on my 2.5 and its 452bhp. Its transformed the car and made is as raw as hell and you have to be alert with it at all times. Its such a rewarding car too. I've no doubt that Frayz will say the same when he goes for his first run after mapping.

If I'd been my age now, when the Escort Cosworth came out, I'd have bought one in a heart beat.
Have debate for years whether to hire a garage and buy a mint Escort Cosworth for the weekends.
Go with your heart, and get a Cosworth if that what you want. Yes the Impreza is faster, better handling, but if a Cosworth make you feel good in yourself, get the Cossie.
All I'm waiting for is to see if the new Focus RS is to be 4WD or not. If it is, this car will be my Escort Cosworth. Plan to buy the Focus for weekends only. Plan to keep it for 5-10 years too.

I will always regret selling my Impreza.
Irrespective of what comes after. I longed for a Lancia Integrale until I drove it and a P1 in the same day. I didn't want another go in the Lancia.
Personally I prefer bugs to blobs anyday. be a shame to let it go.
