Hi, my girlfriend is looking to get a Yaris T sport in the next few months and I thought I'd ask if anyone has any experiences with these cars?

Are they reliable, nice to drive, economical, cheap to run etc?

I have one! One word, Brilliant.

They are very nippy, handle rather well and there is good pull in all the gears especially in 5th. Are they reliable? its a Toyota! I get according to the trip get around 39-45mpg. The seats are comfy although not sure what they are like on a long run. The gearbox is very positive and accurate. Brakes are good and strong. The steering is nicely weighted. Its a nice car to drive.

It's my wife's main car, a 51 plate. Cracking motor, for a small car, I love it. A pretty rare sight on the roads too. Goes well, quite short geared actually, sounds the biz. Can be a bit of a handfull if you drive it like it feels like you should, mainly because it's such a short wheelbase. Just don't take B-roads at 80 in it and you'll be OK. I find the seats a bit of a chore on a very long drive as like most little cars you're ON them rather than IN them, but it's better than most. My wife certainly doesn't want to get rid of it even though it's now far too small for the two kids as well.

Had one for a year , great little car, do 100 mph on the motorway all day, 38 -45 mpg, and being Toyota totally reliable, would have another one tommorow.
All you need in the real world!

thanks for all the feedback. My gf will be driving it fairly leasurely I expect, but she likes the sporty styling touches on them as well as the size of the car. She'll be pleased with the fuel economy too. I expect we'll be going for a 5 door model as she's used to that with her current Rover 214. One thing she'll probably definitely still want though is a reasonable amount of luggage space; is the boot fairly good on these for their size? Also is space in the back ok for a couple of people (as long as it's not much worse than her Rover she'll be happy).

The mpg and performance sound excellent for a small car, so I'm looking forward to driving it too.

Not sure if this apply to the 5 door, but the 3 door models, the rear bench seat slides forward about 25-30 cm (guess not actually measured it).

What colour are you going to get. I would avoid black for obvious reasons. Reds nice, so is the blue.

I think she likes the sound of a blue T sport or maybe a dark grey one. Most seem to be dark grey for some reason?

Is the boot size ok on the Yaris or is there not room to swing a cat?

Can't comment on the T-Sport but we had a 1.3 vvti for a while and I hated it. The gearbox was horrible (very notchy) and the steering had no feel at all. Certianly not a driver's car. But, like I say, the T-Sport may be different.

Thanks, I expect we'll take one on a test drive when she's ready to buy one but it can't be any worse to drive than her Rover 214. That thing is horrible

the rover 214 might have a bigger boot, so you would have to see one.

The rear bench does slide back and forth. Ours is a red 3-door. Although the boot isn't quite big - it's basically the size of a large suitcase with the handle uppermost - it's a good width opening so if you ever do need to carry big stuff it can get it in with the back seats down. In fact my wife got it because it was the only small car that could take a 1m square piece of acrylic board in easily and was straightforward to load up. Others in the same class just seemed to have awkward sticking out bits everywhere that meant they weren't very practical.

I am looking at a 2001 one of these with high miles (over 100k) and want to know if it will be coming up for some major parts replacements at this mileage or will the Toyota reputation of reliability still ring true (obviously depending on full service history and been looked after etc)?

This is to be used as a run around, school run car and a bit of fun when I don't want to go out in my 4x4.

Do they have cam belts or chain driven? What is clutch replacement costs like etc?

Other option is Suzuki Ignis Sport which I think has the same engine and seems to be cheaper to buy?

Cracking car mate. I had one for over 3yrs and not one fault with it. Drove perfect in everyway. Small boot but it is a small car! Can't recommend them enough. Only sold mine cos I always wanted a Impreza. My dad had it before before me so really we had it over 5yrs in the family. He's got a Corolla T-Sport now. That's just the same but bigger and more powerful!

My brother has just sold his Yaris 04 plate t sport and brought a corolla t sport with the VVTLI engine

The Yaris was a lovely car goes well for a 1.5 good build quality and is a very relaible car. It also gets good mpg

just another thumbs up fot the yaris. my sister in law has a Y plate one with 100k on it. its only a 1 litre too! just gone through MOT on sat. its ratty now but everything all still working. she does some big miles in it too: probably 60 each way on her daily commute.

Mine's just clocked up 120k. I do a 48 mile daily commute at approx 60mpg.
The central locking has failed on the passenger front door, but apart from that it's all good. Last MOT she sailed through.

Had a Corolla T Sport as a stop gap before I got my Scooby.



Only had it a few weeks but loved it. Went like stink.

I had the Mk1 though which just looked like an ordinary corolla.
Only niggle and reason I wouldn't get another one was that even with a 6-speed box the gearing was far too low and made it very noisy on the motorway.

Otherwise cracking car and would give a CTR a run for it's money I bet

I take it you haven't considered a Daihatsu? Daihatsu are owned by Toyota, and for the money you are looking at, you could pick up a Sirion Mk1 With a revised front end Rally 2 or 4 for that money. Or Something I have as a run-a-round a YRV Turbo 130. Both five doors, group 9 insurance on the Sirion and Group 8 on the YRV Turbo. Difference with the YRV is that it's an Auto with a steershift mode. :-)

Oh I have and really wanted a Rally 2. I missed out on the only one on Pistonheads earlier this month when I really wanted it, was going for £1600 but I only sold my car this week. However i've ended up with neither a Rally2 or T Sport and got this:



1 owner from new, 44k miles 12 months MOT bought from my MOT tester (by total fluke through having a chat with someone else) for an absolute bargain of £1200 and I am thrilled to bits with it Been out in it all day driving around as I can't keep out of it.
