Default bmw x5 on auto trader

is this a scam the first two seem cheap and you cannot phone them
Buy a used BMW X5 Car - Auto Trader UK

just got this reply to an email i sent
Hello there,
I am glad to hear that you are interested to buy my 2005 BMW X5 3.0d Sport! Although I am registered in the UK,i recently moved to Portugal (where my family is from) and the car is being shipped from here. I want to sell it in UK due to the fact that it's an UK version (right handed),it meets all UK standards.I bought this car from UK and It still has UK registration, so you won't have to pay any import and insurance fees. The car meets United Kindom DOT and EPA guidelines so there will be no problem regarding UK Customs policy on receiving the car.The car is in perfect condition, the bodywork is immaculate,no scratches, dents or hidden defects as well as the interior in excellent non-smoking condition , never been implied in any accident and it is as advertised .The car comes with log book, HPI cleared, (it's lien free). You will get from me the keys and all documents to register the car.If the car is not how i described it, i will offer a full refund. It will be insured during transportation and will be delivered at your address in maximum 10 days. Final price is GBP 6,990 (the price includes shipping and insurance fees). The price is low because the car is right hand drive in a country where all cars are left hand drive so in the Portugal is very difficult to drive this type of vehicle ( and also the fees to register it here are really high).Nobody wants to buy it and instead of keeping it in garage I decided to sell it to someone back in the UK.
I want to take this opportunity to assure you that this deal is 100% legitimate, the finacial part of this deal will be manage by a third party and in this way both buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction.Let me know if you need any further details or if you would like to buy my 2005 BMW X5 3.0d Sport.
Thank you!

99.9% sure these will be part of a scam. As soon as a foreign country is mentioned alarm bells ring.
I would think 15k would be a more realistic price to pay so draw your own conclusions.
Nik.

You can buy my 2005 X5 3.0d sport for £15k- the one you've mentioned at £6990 has to be a scam- far too cheap, and the wording isn't great. When did you last hear someone mention 'Lien' when selling a car, and what does
never been implied in any accident
mean?

Was this done with the owner's permission?

I think mine's probably worth about £3.50! No point selling it, as it does everything I need really well; tows race transporters to meetings all over, drops boats in the sea, and transports us + three little'uns, dogs, cases etc all over the place- whilst returning 38mpg at a constant (even does 28 with the trailer / boat on back). I've seen mid 40s if I keep it at 60, on cruise control, with the aicon off (didn't do that for long though- any of it!)

Hope this is of some help.....

Thats a scam - makes me shiver that someone might buy that

"I want to take this opportunity to assure you that this deal is 100% legitimate,"

That sentence just doesnt ring right at all. That's the one that unsettled it for me as normal sellers just don't write that kind of crud.

a recent scam, that nearly caught a freind out, (and heard mentioned on the radio) is as follows

you see a cheap car and enquire about it

owner may or may not say they live abroad -- but in any case will inform you that it is a hassle to show someone who may not have the money to buy it - time waster etc

to ensure that you have the money and are serious they will request you do a money transfer to yourself (to a money transfer office where the car is located) -- safe yes -- coz it payable to you

they will then ask you to send confirmation that you have sent the money (to yourself) so that they know you are not a timewaster

now this is the scam -- they know YOU and where you sent the money to -- so they go and collect it -- the problem is the receiving Moneygram place have very very lax rules on identification -- the scammer turns up, he knows your name the amount and prob the reference no of the transfer

SCAMMED -- you have been warned

You may want to use a different postal code on AT. Unless you don't live a couple of doors down from a nursery/primary school?

This is a scam, it was a big thing on Pistonheads through this year to the point where even Pistonheads were announcing restrictions on their for sale section because of it. They managed to filter out the ads so it looks like the scammers have moved to Autotrader.

Definite scam. The wording is very similar indeed to a reply I had about an E55 AMG that was at the time also too cheap. Owner had moved to Spain yet the car was advertised as being in Stirling which is why I showed interest since I could go and look at it.
