Anyone driven the new Golf GTi TDi PD 150, how's it go?

Can't comment on the 150 but have a 130 parked out side.
Well built as you'd expect from VW and a good level of specification as standard.
Economy wise, expect 45/50 mpg running around and up to 60mpg and probably more on a run depending on how you drive it.
Performance figures don't do it justice and its the real world performance that impresses with a BIG slug of torque from 1800 rpm to 4000rpm. Exit any roundabout in 2nd gear, plant the throttle and the guy previously trying to get in your boot is now a spec in the distance.
Interior noise isn't an issue and once the stereo is on, your laughing.
At the end of the day, it depends what you want but the economy / performance balance is suitably impressive especially if you do a lot of miles but want something that has some poke.
I did have a 150 on order from Europe but had no idea when it was going to arrive so I changed the order to a black 3dr 130 fully specc'ed up with big alloys and lowered.
I'm paying 13,400.00 for the car including the tax, reg and delivery compared to approx 18,250.00 for the same car priced up from a UK VW dealer. I figure it dshould be depreciation proof for at least a year, then I'll probably order another!!!!

I've had a brief drive in a 150 and it is very impressive. Pretty much the same performance as my 330d auto, well screwed together, if a little numb in the handling. Still rattles like an oil burner as its still a 4-pot, but not as bad as they used to be.
I would take it in preferance to a gti turbo, as with a wave of torque it is effortless, and you never find yourself in the wrong gear - same reasons I chose the 330d over the 330i!
Stu - where/how did you source the 130? My sister-in-law is after a 130 and could stretch to the price you state!

I have a 3 week old Golf 150 , got rid of a UK MY99 5 Door for it, as has been said in previous posts it really is efortless to drive the torque from 2000rpm is great even in 6th gear it pulls really well, obvoiusly it does not handle as well as the scooby did (lots of body roll), but then I had no expectation that it would :0, fuel economy is superb first tankfull over 40 mpg around town mostly,I am very pleased with it so far, now to start modifying

I'm running a Volkswagen TDI PD 130 Bora and the only option I would tell you to get would be the sports pack with the upgraded springs and shocks. Apart from that the car does what it's meant to and goes very well for a diesel. There are lots of chipping options out there as well to get the BHP and torque up near standard UK Scooby power but without the handling.

Diesel ca reviewed it a couple of months ago against Civic Typr R (petrol obviously) O-60 around 7.5-8.0 secs and in gear obviously tremendous. I was close but completely differrent cars. GOlf handling PP like all golfs now, and univolving from a drivers car perspective. Civic Typr R went faster ahndled better and was a lot more hardwork to make it fast - but wa smore fun. Economy only advantage as a lot of manufacturers are buiding better now. Downside was noise as it wa noisier than 130 and rougher, so they reconed that 130 was better alrounder and valuse for money as it aws an extra £1500.. Y IKES loads more than petrol equivalent.

i'm getting a company car and my top choice is the 150 golf ! also tried the passat 130 sport, a4 130 sport, saab 9.3 TiD se etc etc
i drove the 130 a few weeks ago.
did a 450-460 mile round trip to Warrington and averaged 51.3 on the way north and 47.7 on the way home
try that in my Scoob
gr8 build quality, comfortable and ok handling.
the 150 should be better as it has the lowered suspension & uprated components from the handling pack. its a seriously rapid motor even in 130 guise......you'll surprise a few people with its acceleration, esp in gear for overtaking.
and i'm getting the 150 to test for 2/3 days next week

I have a mate with one, I drove it for about twenty miles the other day, It pulls like the preverbial train, and it does seem to matter what gear you're in, there's no need to rev it, yes, the handling is a bit numb, but it's the sort of car that you could drive all day, I got in having only ever driven a mk1 golf briefly, it was really strange it felt just like an old friend, almost too easy to drive.

Stu,
There seems to be a 4 month wait for the 150 from Europe, so I'm interested in the 130 at that sort of money.
Could you mail me details on: andrew.tang@blueyonder.co.uk
Cheers
Andy
Ps - If anyone knows of cheap 130/150 ready to be bought at an attractive price, can you also mail me!

well i got the 150 delivered yesterday for a 72hr test drive.
bloody hell does it pull and pull and pull.
wotever speed and almost wotever gear if you flex your right foot it goes. even doing 80 in 6th this morning a quick blip of the throttle and away it goes.....i am impressed.
although i almost wonder if its got too much power for the chassis etc. so easy yesterday in the rain to get the traction control light blinking away madly - without actually trying to !
damn good fuel economy though.....100 mile drive to work averaged 47.7mpg this morning - some dartmoor roads and then basically all motorway upto bristol.
oh well better go off and find the queue of people who want to drive it !!

I read in Evo, that the 150bhp car has a different camshaft to cope to with the extra power! I wonder if it's wise to lift the torque of the 130 car to 299ftlbs! (Same as my 'lightly' modified Impreza!!!)
