Cool My Merc SL55 AMG

Just had the DMS conversion with suspension update.

600bhp and over 600ft/lb torque the same power as a maclaren f1 and maclaren slr they reckon 208mph + and now its delimited fully, tyres permitting.....the extra bhp is insane it revs so much quicker of course in this weather its hard to get any power down as it was wheelspinning at 100+ on the private test track....for some reason it sounds louder too

Also i had the suspension mod which lowers and stiffens it up so now no gaps so looks even more sexy around 25-30mm drop, plus its turned it from a wallowy barge into a much harder tighter feel once ABC sport is pressed.

All in all money well spent..gives me an erection looking at the car plus gives me a huge grin trying to tame the beast

Love these cars.

One of these is the reason I am aiming for 600bhp with my STI Type R project.

One left me for dead at circa 400bhp a couple of years ago.

I'm nearly finished

Question

being nosey, how much for conversion? did you have or need the gearbox remapped? what sort of warranty do they provide, and will the remap be flashed off if it goes into merc and they plug their diagnostic thingy in? cheers mate, leigh

The conversion retail for both is £3800+vat but being in the trade and complaining about a credit crunch it was significantly less!..You get the black box for the suspension ecu which lowers it by upto 30mm and stiffens it (best mod you could ever do to the SL) You get the new pulleys for the engine to up the compressor pressure to 1.05 bar and of course new compressor belt and the all important ecu update which means you now must run on super unleaded fuel.

No the TCU has not been touched.

No warranty, but the increase is only mild from 92bhp per litre to 111bhp per litre hardly an issue.

Yes the software could be wiped at mercedes, you must tell them NO software updates!...Car would still run fine if they did though!

Wow! That must be stupidly quick!

You've posted a pic - how about posting a wav file of the engine revving?!
One of the best noises of any car I reckon.

Maybe it's just me, but if I had had the above experience, I might have moved on to a different marque (and bought another house or two with the savings).

I am too used to a 2.3 engine - and forget that a bloody big engine with what I consider a very weedy amount of boost can make huge power! I need to up my game! What rpm does it make peak power? What's the boost at that rpm?
600bhp and maybe 500ftlbs is really quite do-able on my 2.3 but there would be nowt much going on below 3.5k rpm...

1)the suspension drop, is it 30mm lower all the time, or only when abc is pressed? will the speedbump button still lift the car up so you can go over them?

2)does the engine kick down, or does it use the torque to build up speed and not kickdown. when i had my old rs6 remapped, it hardly ever kicked down ,which i missed to be honest.

3) any recommendations for sports exhaust upgrade? a milltek on my old rs6 made a big difference to the noise, was much better. sl55 sounds nice, but imho, could be a little louder and in yer face. any ideas which make is the best one to go for mate?

thanks for the advice, i appreciate it

hi spudgun,

1) abc has nothing to do with lowering of the car it stiffens it.Basically you just loose the top setting so you get lowered/std/high.

2)yes engine still kicks down!

3)i thought the exhaust wasnt loud enuff too,but it changed when the conversion was done its seems alot louder now!!!!

DMS developed the 600 kit on std exhaust/filters etc so best left std...i wanted to put K&N filters in but they said no.....obviously you must run only on super unleaded.
