Default Recommend me a small economical car for 3.5k please

My brother in law has a 50 mile drive to work every day and needs a small car that is cheap to buy and cheap to run (it's a second car).

The budget is 3.5k

Polo Diesel would do it, just like this one randomly picked off Autotrader

Auto Trader UK - VOLKSWAGEN POLO 1.4 S TDI 75 3dr [AC] Diesel Hatchback

I'd not fancy doing 100 miles a day in a small car...most are a bit bouncey.

Plus they usually cost more than a larger car. Woudn't an Astra or Focus be a better bet?

Definitely a Daihatsu Sirion Rally II pretty quick, 50 plus mpg if not more , ultra reliable and great to drive

Mark 4 Golf TDI, still stylish and modern, plus you could get a reasonable GT TDI within your price range like these two:

Volkswagen : VW GOLF MK4 GT TDI

Volkswagen : VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GT TDI RED

They are good on fuel and the 110/130bhp models are quite lively

Focus Focus Focus.

I have so far helped four mates buy them and all are very happy.

The mk4 Golf is overpriced and handles like a shopping trolley on the everglades.
