Unhappy JUST PUT WRONG FUEL IN CAR - WOOPS...

I have a Diesel Seat Leon FR and the tank was nearly empty so I went to Morrisons to fill her up.

I put in £18.64 of 'Biofuel' stuff - never heard of it before...and then realised it was the wrong stuff!!!

When I realised this, I then put in £28.51 of diesel to fill the tank and dilute what was there.

I have driven the car very carefully for 15 miles (assortment of motorway and town driving) and all was fine appart from it konking out when running up to traffic lights etc.

Any comments (other than I am a tw@t!!!)

I am assuming I will need to keep topping up with diesel to progressivly dilute and then eliminate the 'Biofuel.'

My only concern is leaving the car for a while as I assume one fuel will settle to the bottom of the tank (the diesel I assume.)

Cheers ladies

OOOps. If I was you I would be getting underneath asap and drain it all out. Replace fuel filter, refill and steady drive out.
At least it wasn't petrol as this wrecks the lud process. Bio fuel?? Not sure, but it heavy oil based, so might be lucky.
But with an FR, which are nice cars by the way, I would not go with the dilute option. Drain, change filter and drive. Pretty much the AA way. Garage way, big bucks. Will talk about the cat being damaged ect ect.
Good luck and get your spanners out.

Forget my last comments about the cat, after a bit of checking you should be OK, but I still would syphen, drain out if you can and replace if you can.

Bio-diesel - The Veggie Fuel
Check here for more info, FAQs middle of page state:
Can I mix bio-fuels with ordinary mineral diesel?
YES, the two types of fuel are absolutely inter-mixable, and can be burned together.

Then not good, bioethonol requires a spark like petrol, diesel is compression.
Me, would get spanners out and drain now. Sorry all I know. Hopefully a chemist will be along soon.

the bioethanol will remove any lubrication and can damage fuel pump and injectors, i don't know how the dilution will help, but i would def drain it, call AA or RAC to do this.

Remember I am scottish and the thought of literally pouring away £50 does note bode well..plus the cost of labour....

Of course, I could be saving £000's, however as it was diluted, I am thinking there will still be lubrication from the diesel, albeir diluted...

Get it drained and replace the fuel filters, it's a very risky strategy just trying to dilute it with diesel.
All you need is a syphon, a load of jerry cans and a fresh fuel filter.
The fact that it's conking out at idle should be ringing alarm bells.

Quick update: called the dealers who said it should be fine (off the record.) They said to proceed as I suggested i.e. keep topping up. Stuck £10 in yesterday and a further £5 today. All is well. The car konks out only occassionally and takes a bit longer to start however all else is fine. The fuel consumption is worse than usual - about 30mpg (compared with about 50mpg) - reminds me of my scooby days when driving economically..........

Your a Tw@t he he

I look after a 192 07/08 plate fleet cars for the MOD and this happens all the time.

Just keep adding the derv to dilute it and you will be fine! IMHO

Put it on next doors driveway then just take out the drain plug.
Walk to garage and buy some diesel, put it in your car when you return and drive away.
S'easy

Sounds like you'll be ok pos get a diesel fuel treatment just to help things along! Normally you can only get away with 5l of petrol, but bio fuel seems like your getting away with it! Prob would still at least change the filter thou! Good luck

Too late now but I can't believe you didn't just drain it as soon as you did it.
I'm guessing your car is worth several thousand pounds, and you risked damaging it for £50?

Having said that I know nothing about bioethanol.
(which is probably why I wouldn't take the risk)

sounds daft but put some diesel engine oil in the tank about 2 litres will do it that will replace any lubrication lost and wont harm the fuel system

keep on topping up with derv, change filter should be fine, many bigger diesel engines are running fine on this without any problems, certainly would'nt bother draining tank etc(just dont make a habit of it!)

If i was you (what a great saying) i would stop and drian the fule and replace with Derv ASAP.

The BIG issue here is the fuel pump. the derv lubes the fuel pump on modern diesels. one of the reasons these modern diesels generate decent BHP and torque is the very, very high pressure the diesel is injected into the engine.

The fuel pump could be a comfy 1K to replace!

I would look on the seat/vw forums and ask there but TBH if it is stalling then the damage may already be done. Good luck!
