Default Slowest Car

All this talk of 911 turbos, Evos, etc - who has the SLOWEST car on here?

While the Astra isn't too bad with 0-60 in 8.6s, the Jimny with it's growling 1.3 four pot and 85 snarling bhp does it in over 14...

Does do a rather splendid off road job though.

And no, my wife is not a hairdresser...

In these times of credit disaster, slow is the new fast.

Maybe...

Our Galaxy does 0-60 in 10 and a bit, actually usefully brisk for such a lump.

Most feeble, though not the slowest, was a 1988 BMW 316 Auto Estate, looked the part with BBS alloys and matt black trim on a white body, but the father in law bought it new for the mother in law, it lasted a month until they got p1ssed off with its turgid performance, they arent speed demons but after a manual 2.0 it was woeful.

Anyway, it isnt just figures, my Saab accerates fairly quickly but isnt as characterful as the old one, we had a Fiat 500, painfully slow on figures but felt like a little racing car, all spitting and popping, I also dont mind if something is slow but at least sounds and feels willing, 1.1 205 I drove the other month was a pitiful thing, but felt alive in its slow and understeery whilst wallowy crapness.

We have a classic 998cc Mini Automatic, seriously any overtake have to be planned about a week in advance. In fact it is in my diary, pass that van next tuesday but what a belter in the bends and get looks wherever it goes.

We've actually got a 1275 auto lump to go in it when i get round to it. Should improve things by about a day I reckon.

I can beat that. I've got an old 1.something fiesta and it'll only go above 80mph downhill with your foot planted for several miles. Going uphill I often have to drop to 4th and still the speed drops to like 60mph.

Between my old silver Wrx and UK Turbo I had the pleasure of owning a Peugeot 106 1.5n/a deisel. This did the 0-60 sprint in 17.9 secs.

It lasted 7 weeks.

Current 205 GTi hits 60 in about 7.8 secs, so very respectful for a 21 year old car with "only" 130bhp. And it handles better than my Scoob(s) did too I'm afraid.

When i was about 18 we were invited by next door neighbours to some kind of exhibtion at Kent unversity about 15 miles away.

We ( 4 of us ) crammed into his fiat 500 ( which hed just done a diy repair job on ) - im not sure we ever got to 60

As jacko says tho the soundtrack was quite entertaining - sometimes you could even make out what the folks up front were saying

My Defender gets rather dodgy above 55, 60 must take more than 20 seconds, it is 19 years old though and is still a beast off road.

This is a toughy: We currently have a Pug 206 1.9D van, its a bit of a joke as its been pimped; tints and TSW Venom replicas And a MkIV Golf 1.6 (poverty spec - not even remote locking! )

Although the 206 drives bloody well for a 120K mile 206 (I've driven 206s with half that mileage that are more sloppy than a mother of twelve). Its a n/a 1.9 diesel.

I think the Golf is probably faster but it feels and handles like a barge. 207 has traction issues owing to the Nankangs, but once underway progess is erm, well, steady, but it'll have the Golf in the twisties (as long as its dry re: Nankangs <spit> )

Looks the same as mine, which is actually a bit of a flying machine. Then again, it is a "4 Work", Mitsubishi speak for a "Shogun Club Sport"

Could be me

I've had a lot of cars over the years: but for slowness, 1200 cc vw beetle, a 900 cc polo, an astra that struggled to to 60 mph and drank oil like it had a raging thirst, probably a few 200 series volvos, late 60's/early 70's vw camper vans, T25 vw van and so on.................

suppose looking back, all the other cars on the road weren't that quick either: imprezas didn't exist etc: anything sub 10 sec's to 60 was a big deal.

now every car on the road is respectively quick really.

My first car was a 73 Marina 1.3. I did just under 80 (indicated) in it once and I think it nearly fell in half. 0-60 must have been around 20s or so.

A mate has a Bay Window VW - 45bhp and it must weigh a bit too. VERY slow...

LOL

To be fair, its not bad.

Ours is SWB, rear seats removed, caged (ok, for the dogs ) and extinguisher.

I guess thats like a "track day special" compared to your "club sport"

Just checked: The 206 1.9D wins: 0-60 in 15.6secs, 100mph max . Golf 1.6: 0-60 in 10.6secs, 117mph max (no way. I don't belive that; its an utter bag of poo, think a road test is called for.....).

206 has it in the twisties though

My vectra 1.7 td manages 0-60 in around 14 seconds, the strategically placed rust holes increase aerodynamic efficiency by at least 15%

Mk4. I can honestly say there is nothing about the way it looks, drives, brakes or handle that redeams itself. How a 100bhp 1.6 engine has so little torque amazes me.

My old MK2 1.3 Polo was alot more gutsy, and a better car to drive too (well, I never expected much out of it, maybe thats the point).
