Default what car with awsome grunt for under 15k

looking for a car with massive overtaking power.my preference would be turbo and 4 wheel drive.petrol or diesel.and preferebly be under 15 grand but cheaper if possible.not interested in acceleration above 100mph or top speed just real world instant overtaking grunt as im fed up driving my accord type r either like a granny or like a maniac.plus im 42 now.
so far ive got the
jaguar s type r 400bhp 400 torque 220bhp/ton can be had for less than 10grand.thirsty and reliability may be a problem.also wife would be happy with jaguar xkr with same engine.also like the audi a8 4.0tdi with 276hp and 476ft/ibs of torque.and you can get a superchip if you get bored.it is heavy at nearly 2 tonnes.also used to have the classic 215hp scooby which i liked.but im out of touch so which one to get now?my mate has a fabia vrs with tuning box and you can feel the shove when accelerating but the wife hates the look of them.my brother has the boxter 3.2 s on here and he hates it.ive had a go and it just dosent seem that fast .ive came to the conclusion that a turbo or supercharger is the way to go with maybe 4wd for the ****e weather up here in scotland. anyone care to add their suggestions.

If you're still alright with driving a japanese tin box rather than something like the Jag you mention... then a Impreza Hawkeye (06-07) STi or equivalent(ish) aged EVO would provide pretty impressive shove out of the box for you.

Plus, the 4WD thing is definitely useful for the kind of roads and weather we get up here.

Another option which is a bit more grown up, would be an E39 BMW M5, can pic them up for less than your budget and from what I've read, mostly over on Passionford, they are a pretty complete performance car.. although not quite a backroad weapon due to size and power delivery.

Cheers,
Grant

Vette C5!!

The ultimate in poke and go. I had one for almost 2 years and in terms of straight line they are seriuosly quick. The grunt is something else. I suspect similar to the Monaro, however the C5 is all plastic body and is fairly light for what it is. LHD only though so can make overtaking fun on tight roads, but on the motorway there is not much that will stick with it - for £15k that is!

What about this 5 year old beast? About 70 grand new, now down in the 16k area. 450bhp / 413 ft/lbs torque and you get 4WD for the Scottish weather and loads of toys. 0-60mph in about 5.9 secs. Top limited to 155mph, but I reckon it would hit 170-180mph given the chance. Not bad for a Q-car Passat lookalike. Trouble is what will it be worth next year?

Good one: certainly seems to tick all the boxes that the OP needs. Can't imagine anything much quicker point to point. But what would his Jag-loving wife think?

My old WR LTD GT Spec B Legacy Wagon is for sale at Litchfields. £13k, 280BHP, Twin Scroll, WR Blue and very stealthy, scared a few big Germans when I had it. Ian will do the Performance Pack up to 330/350 as well inside your budget.

Worth a punt.

Get a Corsa with a C20LET in it. You will pay £4k for a good one and put £9k in the bank, thats what I would do.
