PX Price on 58 ST2!!!! WTF
Just had an email back from a local ford garage who I asked for a quote to change my 58 Focus ST to a Zetec Kuga...
They offered me £11500 PX......even https://www.webuyanycar.com/default.aspx offered me £12500.
I have it advertised here Ford : Focus ST2 Cheapest 58 Reg for £13999 the cheapest 08 / 58 reg, but not had a sniff.
Looks like I'll be keeping the ST for a bit...

The car market knows no bottom.
Look at the ads for cars - the ones that sell are the ones that have a sensible price. I have just sold my Spec C, very quickly, but the price was probably £2k below what people believe was sensible. But there again I sold it very quickly.

New car sales are on the floor, so dealers are out to make as much as they can on their second hand stock. Auction houses are full of dealers snapping up cheap cars, to then sell on at a healthy profit.
Buy yours for £11,500. Advertise it for sale at £17k. Let any potential customer haggle it down to £16k. Customer brags he got a good deal. Dealer makes a few grand.
Allthese stories of 997 Turbo's going for £55k? Yeah at Auction's to a dealer, who'll then advertise it for £70-80k.
With your car though Tony. The ST is a thirsty car. In a high Tax band, and are everywhere. Add people's lack of confidence in the current financial climate, and that's why you've not had a sniff privately.
I sold my 05 STI PPP in August for £12,000. I think I sold at just the right time. Doubt I'd get anywhere near that now.

No dealers I know are getting much action at all - hence recently being offered two £40k BMWs with £12-14k off - that is a deep discount in anyones book!

Prices are really rock bottom for big engined cars.
I just picked up a Mondeo 3.0V6, just over one year old with only 6000 miles fully prepared by Ford Direct. There isn't a mark on it inside or out, full leather with heated and chilled electric seats, all the toys and for just £8500.
List price just over a year ago was near £25k with the options fitted.
Cheers

i traded in a 08 plated st 09 shape. couple of months back for 13k.
you have to remember, without that st badge its a ford focus, one of the most mass produced cars every built.

How comes you want to sell after so little time?
I don't get why people buy brand new if they are going to sell a few months down the line!
I'm assuming circumstances changed?

friends just bought a 4 yr old mondeo with all the toys from ford for £4000. will free warrenty, servicing, tax etc thrown in.
even he says its a dull boring car- but its just for running about in whilst at work (he works away from home and leaves it up in aberdeen)

In fact, I think Tony's ST IS a forces discounted car, so although the low PX price is bad, it's not as bad as if it was my own ST or Joe public's ST that they had given £18k for that was being PX'd - I would lose £6-8k in 9 months if I PX'd it now.
I am going to run it for quite some time though luckily

The more you spend the more your loose - simple as. For example my mates just told me you can get a 1 year old M3 V8 at the moment for 36K which was close to 60K a year ago once you added the extra for the toys.
The more expensive the car the harder it will be to sell as well.
Its defo a buyers market and price means everything if you really want to sell. Sold my STI04 with decat, s/steel exhaust, new 18" PFF7's, remap to 350/350,front lip and warranty, 44K miles for £7700. Sounds cheap don't it, but thats what it takes to sell at the moment.

Yes mate - scary aint it.! I might have got more if I held out and might have got nearer 8.5K. But It was a case of deciding 7.7K now/then or 8.5K in several weeks/months. I've lost far more in the past, and I'm impatient so to pardon the expression a bird in the hand is worth more than 2 in the bush.!
Scoobs have saturated the market which is driving prices down - Supply and demand and all that. TBH some of the prices I have seen being asked recently just make me laugh (present company not included). People really do underestimate how fecked the market is.
I views car now very differently these days and factor £300-£500 a month loss in deprection or however you want to view it.
Since selling the Scoob, I got a cheap GTi-6 love the car, and never misses a beat, and has now effectively paid for itself already. So every month more I get out of it, its free motoring.
I did have an impulsive mad moment v.recently and bought a MR2 turbo T bar thinking it would be a nicer cheap toy than the GTI6. But although its quicker I personally prefer the GTI-6 so now have a cheap MR2 in the classifieds up for grabs.
Not that I am going to but - Compared to what I have lost on more expensive/younger cars.... even keeping the GTI6 and the MR2 turbo wouldn't be extravagant, and I could then have a car for whatever mood takes me.
Bangor motoring is the way of the future IMO.

You have to ask the question, who on earth would want to take the risk of buying a new car at the moment, how ever special it is? Its just stupid!! I know that comment doesn't help the dealers, but people can't be expected to take these sort of hits.
Unless you want to throw away money or keep the car for years to at least get some moneys worth, it doesn't make sense.
Best option is to either lease a new car, buy one thats a couple years old thats been hit really hard, or best still get a much older car like the mentioned 306 GTi-6 (had a blaze yellow one, great fun!) and laugh out loud about the fun per buck your getting. All until this recession disappears in a couple years time.
