I know where there is a Black Edition 30 up for sale, brand new. Dealer has had it in stock for months. At least 6 months that I know of.
Has it up for £21,995. Stating save £2K+
Bet they'll take alot less for it, just to shift it.
Let me know if you want the dealer name/number?

just going through the same process now - £10Kish will get you a low miles 05/55 with a few options.
The options though are a total minefield
DSG or not (some potentially horrendous issues on older cars)
leather
Satnav (or upgrade)
luxury packs
winter/summer packs
lighting
Highline/med line(!) display
Multifunction steering wheel
Ipod dock - doesn't integrate fully on ANY of the options (including the Audi Satnav box)
The list goes on.....

I have looked at the Seat, but I don't like the newer styling Hate the dash. Also doesn't help that my local Seat dealership are about as useful as a chocolate teapot.
When I asked for the brochures, they couldn't even send me the right details for the right car. Muppets. Didn't fill me with confidence.

I've had my 07 plate GTI from new and it's a real return to form for VW after the mk4.
Good performance, lively handling. I had it remapped shortly after I got it and that makes a real difference to it's character. Not missed a beat in 36k miles all of which have been enjoyable.
I definately recommend them.

Wife has a manual one on 18s. Looks good, excellent fuel economy, spools up well, decent traction in the dry, traction control is quite good. Ride is too firm on 18s, yet it rolls too much and bounces on bumpy roads like all sporty Germans. Steering if firm and accurate, but lacking feel (electric PS). When you are at full throttle in 2nd gear you tend to think, "So what?" unless it is wet and then you curse FWD.
A few niggles we've had - replacement rear wiper motor, corroding wheels, failed cruise control, meaningless check engine light with no explanation - not come back though after resetting. All sorted under warranty no problems though. Depreciation has been less than many other cars.
It is a capable run about or girl's motor We are afterall on Scoobynet, and anything that has a 0-60 time around 7 seconds tends to feel dull after a Scooby, forget 0-100, you'll go to sleep before you get there.

There was a fella put a thread on here somewhere last week. He worked at a VW dealers and was saying that a new R32 can now be got for 18-20k....thats a saving of £14,000 on previous new prices
Bit above your budget i know, but £18,000 for a spanking new R32 Golf, damm thats cheap
