Thrust bearing failure causes excessive crank movement (crankwalk) and can be diagnosed by using a dial indicator which enables the thrust movement to be measured off the front pulley. Symptoms of crankwalk include movement in clutch engagement points and crank angle sensor errors.
AYC pumps are prone to failure and are costly, also driveshaft seals between the transfer and gearbox tend to leak.
