I am soon to buy my 17 year old son a VTR Saxo. Has anybody got some links to tuning/accessory companies which specialise in these cars?

David,

try www.saxosports.com - that should give you some links to tuners etc and I think there's a BB similar to this one.

My other half's got a VTR, and they're damned good fun - I think she's a member of the above BB. Have you got a car lined up, or are you going for a new one?

Cheers,

Mike.

Thanks for info which I will pass on to Paul.We have not yet lined one up but am waiting a few weeks till his 18th birthday to help insurance. It will be a secondhand one. I was not even going to go this far with his next car, but (a) he has just been accepted for Medicine at Aberdeen Uni and (b) I was a wee bit sympathetic as I am awiting in 6 weeks time an R34 V Spec Skyline, so he caught me in a weak moment.
I notice you also live in Aberdeen.

David,

sorry I've taken so long to get back to you, been a hectic few days.

We're out in Westhill. What age of car are you looking for, we're looking to sell both our cars in the near future and get one cheaper replacement. Lorna's VTR is W reg May 00 (new shape headlights), poseidon blue, 12000 miles, FSH etc. It's a tidy car, just a few stone chips etc.

We'd just been thinking of trading the cars in, but if you were interested let me know.

Exclamation

Have you investigated the insurance costs? It may turn out cheaper to get a new VTR with the free insurance (they usually run a variant of that deal most of the time) -- at the time my sister did it if you remained claim-free for two years they gave you full 60% NCB!

Could be wrong, but I think I heard that the free insurance only applies if your 21 or older. Also have a friend who took free insurance on a 106, then only when she got her car bashed did she discover there's a £500 excess.

If insurance is a problem, there's also the Furio/Westcoast, which uses the same bodyshell/bodykit as the VTR/S models, but only uses a 1.4i rather than a 1.6i.

But the VTR's and VTS's are a whole lot of fun!!!

Oh, and the Furio/Westie only has drum brakes at the rear, not discs - although you can get a rear beam from a VTR/S for about £200, then pay Severnside Motorsport or GMC to swap them over!!!

David, any questions then drop me a mail. Ive just become a Scooby owner but before my Scoob I had one of the most modded Saxo VTR's in the UK. Any questions and I'd be happy to help you out.

Graham, my son has been drooling over the 2 photos of your amazing looking Saxo. It looks wonderful and very professionally done obviously. I will possibly take up your offer to contact you when we get Paul his car. Thanks for help.

Question

Do you want to adopt another son? I had to wait until I had got my degree, and first job before I ordered my one, then spent 50+% of my wages for the next 2 years to pay the thing off.
I wouldn't recommend modding the car at all until he has owned it for a bit, there is a reason why Citroen lost a lot of money providing the free insurance offer. If he doesn't know already not to brake mid-corner he will soon learn, whether the car will still be around after that point is debateable.
They are really good fun cars, but can fight back. As a side note, ensure the car is properly undersealed, the shell may not rust, but the rest of it sure will.
