Guys
Does anybody know anything about the new shape twin turbo`s (K reg onwards I think)
I know they use the rotary engine but what about running costs?
Are they any good?
Whats the performance like?
Regards

Only been in the old shape, so can't comment personally, although I know a Mazda technician who says they are unbelievable to drive, but a nightmare to own.
Short life span on engine apparently, expensive and frequent servicing. Problematic.
Very quick though. One of the best looking cars out there and great handling.
Aren't the engines actually 2x600cc?

Yeah I know someone who's got a jap-import on a late 'K'.
Great looking car, bit expensive on servicing. Also around 60k the rotor tips can need replacing which is pretty expensive (Mazda charge around £3k, he paid £1.6k from a specialist).
Standard around 260bhp from a twin turbo unit. Feels amazing, you get not one but two turbo kicks. Very rapid.
Only downsides are high insurance (group 19 or 20) and fuel consumption (around 24mpg when trying and around 11 when having fun!)

I was after one, did a bit of research and now im not.
Expect engine rebuild at around 50k, so that was it for me, think theyre 2x1300 not sure and believe they dont need emisions test on mot, nice motors but expensive to run.
Scooby or Supra.

hello there!
very nice looking motor! there was one in Japenese performance mag, hell of a tool, its 400bhp at 12psi
they were saying for a race spec engine it costs 3000 grand, give Dragon autosport a ring 01206865444 they did they mechanical work on this car, so they would be able to give you a idea on engines and rebuilds.
We had the older Rx7 turbo and well looked after it was and 100000 miles was seen off, My dad had the Rx4 many many moons ago, 1974 to be exact and that did 100000 miles in those days from a rotary, the problem he had with that rotary was he thought he would put some redex in the fuel to give it a clean out but back then the tips were carbon and of coures redex disolves carbon so goodnight
i think there on steel tips now but i wouldnt of thought you woud see anymore than 20mpg
anywaty im going on now but i have a soft spot for RX7's

After a great deal of thought and research I've decided to import an RX7 from Japan in the next couple of months. Make no bones about it, this is an enthusiasts car.Takes a lot of looking after and must be serviced on a regular basis (2K Oil change).
This is not a cheap car to run and it would be sensible to also budget for any future problems that need to be taken care of.

Spend a couple of months or so researching it, reading the various topics, along the way realise what a fantastic drivers car it is...but then decide if you have the commitment for ownership.
Good Luck mate.
