Tempted to buy a Z4M Coupe tomorrow.
Had a call from BMW today and asked if I wanted to buy a new car. Had a look at there used cars and saw a Monaco Blue Z4M for £22,000 on a 56 plate. I'm really tempted. Any thoughts on this car? I'm taking it for a test drive tomorrow. They offering me good money for my BMW too

Lovely car's.
Have a Z3M Coupe and a few friends have Z4M's and they are really nice to look at as well as drive around.
Excellent handling, as well as straight line speed, and at bargain prices at the mo...

Are you the guy with the E46 Cabrio thats given you a lot of hassle??
I really like the look of the Z4M Coupe, there was one being moved at the Dealer when I collected our 330d from its service... sounded quite fruity, even just moving around the car park/used car display.
To those who have driven/owned one, what is the interior space like in one of these cars??
Cheers,
Grant

Yes I was the one with the convertible. Just took it for a test drive and its amazing. Raw power and the best exhaust note (well apart from the scoobys)
I had to put a deposit down and collect it next tuesday. Lots of room inside too.
Heres some pics

Why oh why does someone have to have a pop at everyone that gets a nice motor on here?
Even Spooky's 996 GT3 had a few "0h it will oversteer" and "it will do less than 20mpg" comments.
Just shouts "I'm really jealous" or "got nothing better to do" to me. It's a 350ish bhp, German engineered stunning coupe FFS, not a poxy jap rally rep or crappy "hot" hatch. It's a superb car. Yes I know you have an SL55 - nice car too but comments like these are just sad.

Lovely car, would like one of these was looking at z4's at the same time i was looking at the e46 convertibles but more space won in the end so i got a 330 sport and lost loads on it in 18 months. Only thing i dont like about these are the alloys, they fit in my opinion some much nicer looking ones on the rest of the z4 range, that aside though very nice motor

Did you pay £22K in the end, or chip a bit off ? Be careful with light coloured leather seats, as they crack and stain quite easily. I would put some leather guard on.
I like the way the seats are light, but the carpets are black, a lovely combination. When everything is light, including the carpets, gets a bit OTT.
Be interested in hearing you thoughts about the power delivery, as with that type of engine, you have to rev it quite high.
Looks nice, bet you cant stop looking at it when you park up / shop. :-)

I love SL55's ! But reading reports on this site, and from friends who are merc 500cl / cls owners, reliabilty is soooooooooo poor.
Shame, a truely lovely looking, sounding beast :-)

I keep looking at the pictures on my phone. Roll on tuesday. Will give a full report of the drive when i've driven it for a week.
From the test drive the power seemed immense straight away. The best bit was the exhaust note. Even though it has the same engine as the E46 M3 its meant to have a better exhaust system, better ECU and CSL brakes plus over 100KG lighter than the M3.
I don't think it would be that far behind a new M3. I think the new M3 only has 15 bhp/ton more than the Z4M

Congratulations Paul.
I made the same move around 2-3 weeks ago myself, I moved from an 07 STI (spec.D) to a 56 Z4M with 9k miles.
My thoughts so far:
I've not missed the rear seats, mpg and range (220miles Vs. 300+miles) is better than my Impreza (and yes, I HAVE been stretching it's legs), power delivery is more linear and contrary to the above it doesn't need to be revved very highly to really get shifting the Impreza's power band seems narrow in comparison, exhaust note is subtle but lovely, love the hill start thing, the brakes are on another planet and I've nearly headbutted the windscreen a few times already, it's way more refined on a motorway run, it's a nicer place to be when you're sat behind the wheel, it feels and looks far more special and sporty.
The only downsides for me so far is I'd like somewhere better to put my phone than the rear central cubby or the little pocket in front of it and the gearchange from 1st > 2nd requires practice or a small modification involving the clutch delay valve.
Like I've said before, the Impreza is a great car and bang for buck is hard to beat, especially once mapped etc and is hugely tractable in all conditions, but I'm really enjoying the Z4M far more to be honest about it.
Regarding the hard and skittish ride, was that in the M or the 3.0? The latter uses runflats and I did find that quite skittish on a test drive, but the ride was better than my Impreza. I've not found the M's ride skittish at all, but it is firm - in a good way, it is a sports car after all, not a 5 series or Jag! The Impreza used to bang/crash over potholes and bad bumps in the road, the Z just thuds over them and feels more solid over them.
Remember though, that you are comparing a 28k AWD rapid saloon to a £45k+ sports car here and the cars are quite different....
