Default First time I have been in one of these...

I have driven most of the worlds fast cars one way or another but this one was always a personal aim, and for once, it didnt dissapoint!

Aerial Atom 300.
One of the worlds fastest road cars in both acceleration and braking!

Absolutely fantastic machines! I was lucky enough to get to drive one at an 'experiences' day a couple of weeks ago:

I could understand the similarity with a superfast go kart! I felt that the one that I drove skipped about a fair bit at speed on the straights (which concentrated the mind!) and would have preferred the brakes to be a bit better imo. But I would definitely have one for a track day special if I had the space and cash. Brilliant

Im sure its fantastic - but really worth it over a caterham? etc

I recently saw a suited geezer driving around town in an atom - now apart from looking rediculous (even without a bowler) he must surely have been covered in sh*ite by the time he met his next client

Always thought they were the ultimate for track day fun, being half car half bike and probably faster than both.

But who has tried one, against a Caterham or maybe a Radical? I imagine the ground effect is rubbish, so maybe not the ultimate fastest, but lap times kind of aside, which is most fun?

Anyway, what are they like, does it just feel like a super-fast go-kart or a well setup sports car with the body/roof/everything missing?
Hard to describe, its not like any sports car as its just so much faster than any conventional sports car, and its so low you can touch the ground, which only adds to the effect. Hard to describe how it goes really... its as brutal as some very big power cars I have done with upwards of 800bhp, yet it is as nimble as the pro carts we race for fun at three sisters. A pretty unique and indescribable car, yet alsoa totally pointless purchase in this country due to our weather.

Thats said, as teh owner explained to me, they literally NEVER depreciate, so you buy one, enjoy it and sell it again for a full refund when you get sick of having to turn back home when it starts raining.

Ive driven them all as it happens. This is undoubtedly faster and most fun in my eyes but is that because its the one I always wanted to spend some real time in? The fact that it is in faster than almost anything else on the road may have made me blinkered because I do get turned on by outright acceleration more than anything else. Its handling is pretty impressive although me saying that after only driving it on a road is altogether pointless. That said, its brakes are incredible, possibly better than anything else I have ever experienced!

This is worth a watch:

I envy you that experience, I had to play on poxy roads with other cars which hampered the experience somewhat.

Well worth it IMO as the atom surely must be wasted on our roads? Just posted up a thread about it:

Made me realise I'm no stig, but great fun
