Default Old Supras ?

Have found a very nice mark three 1990 Supra, sixteen grand spent on it, it looks immaculate and I have always loved these, bought one years ago but the headgasket expired so it went back. This one is a turbo with some mods for about three hundred brake, stainless full system, tarts boudouir retrim and full respray, nice wheels, four decent tyres and updated brakes, nice audio and mint doesn't do it justice.

I don't do many miles, my saab is great but dull and I fancy some retro rwd action, it's only two and half grand which is a lot for a big old medalion man barge but it is definitely worth it compared to our manky old fiat 500 for the same money and the daft prices old Fords are going for.

It's bright red with azev a's and looks superb, always fancied one, am I mental ?

I've been looking at similar stuff recently for some reason.

Fancy something bigger and more comforablt than the 205 but a bit retro and still sporty.

Been looking at the old Supra's, GT3000's and Preludes. Prefer Jap for reliability. keep wandering onto Pistonheads

Yep the interior, though a nice job is a bit of an aquired taste.

Fuel doesn't worry me, I cycle to work seven miles away and we have a diesel people carrier so I put a tank in a month if that, so I just use it for fun.

Seems a shame that the chap has been dicked about after all that work to not get much back and wierd that scruffy Capri's go for more and these were light years ahead, even as a Capri fan I can see that !

Still, it's a bit of a dinosaur so will have a think, bet it would see which way a modern hot hatch went

They're surprisingly hustleable for their size and age - I regularly took mine out for Sunday morning blasts with some of the MK4 and Scooby crew down in Kent, and was quite able to stay the pace.

I still miss mine - was a great car

Im a supra fan, and had 3 of them, 2 x mkiii turbos, 1 x mkiv tt. Just sold one of my mkiii turbos as it was time to get rid.

Mkiii's are lovely cars and the weak points are well known / documented, e.g. head gasket, front ball joints, rear diff, rusty rear arches. Find one that had all these done, and you've got a fast car that will keep going to 200K.

Mkiii na arent worth the hassle, similar issues, but without the bhp, so aim for a turbo. Lots of imported 2.5tt mkiii's, which are 280bhp, and the grandfather to the mkiv tt. Dont touch the 2.0tt engines, absolutely useless, and had to source parts / knowlegde.

Mkiv tt, built proof ! total 100% reliabiltly, well mine has been and Ive done a good 100K on it. I've pretty much left all my supras standard, and they seem to go on and on and on. Once you started fiddling with them, for extra bhp, problems start to occur.

I love supras, mkiii feels more solid that a mkiv, more comfortable inside, but the mkiv feels like a fighter plane !

Mpg mkiii turbos - 24-29mpg mkiv tt - 15-26mpg

some great deals around, but a ton of crap too, so becareful. some great helpful forums to look through for help.

mkiii - mkiiisupra.net
mkiv - mkivsupra.net

Tremendous cars, cant recommend them enough.

Cheers Simon, going to keep looking and have started looking at the MK4 as well, trouble is, prices vary wildly and some many have been murdered with hanging body kits and gash wheels, some look spot on, so many have been tuned to death, dont get me wrong I am not averse to a few mods but I dont want a 600 bhp single turbo monster that does nothing off boost and then either skids into a hedge or goes into hyperspace, standard plus a little bit is plenty quick enough for me !

Also, looking at the 300 ZX but again, so many seemed to have been owned by those with a taste bypass, many are neglected, so same story.

Standard cars can often command a premium because of that.

What you might be advised to do is contact an importer and get a fresh one. JM Imports is a well-regarded company.

That is part of my plan, something RWD, cheapish and robust enough, its just convincing the missus, my Saab sits there week in week out, very rarely moving as I have no desire to take it for a blast, ok its reasonably quick but front wheel drive and devoid of any fun, as I dont need it I can have something less sensible.

E30 isnt a bad idea though, very cheap nowadays !

Would a Supra TT VVTI be in budget ?.All of the VVTIs i've noticed are auto though, mind you probably has a sportshift of some kind. Also these are imports so a little less power, than the 326bhp you usually find.

300zx, lovely cars but dear to maintain and arent as quick as supra tt's.

Ignore the wildly over priced ones on pistonheads, a p plate JDM facelift supra TT, with about 70K 5/6K.

There are a few TT VVTI manuals out there, but the VVTI, due to the SVA, are quite rare. I prefer the autos, becuase Im lazy, but there isnt much different between the auto / manuals.
