If you want a classic, you could just about get one of these. This nice one's at auction tomorrow. Better than any of that usual auction-house rubbish that the Top Gear boys bought in last night's show!
Barons Auctioneers
Or just spotted this from the same Manufacturer.

Or be predictable and buy one of the many millions of old MX-5's that are out there.

For £2k you can pick up a few desirable E36 BMW's, some scruff of the neck back lane rampaging from the 318ti/318is or perhaps you are more of a drifter and would prefer a 325i/328i Sport - can be maintained on a budget with ease.
Perhaps an MR2 will tickle your fancy, not sure about maintenance though, the n/a version isn't quick but could be entertaining.
How about risking it for a biscuit - Alfa Romeo : Alfa Romeo 2.0 T.Spark L.E.

Had a S13 200SX before my WRX. Loved it to death but ultimately it rusted into pieces. It was damn fast though ( it was only 185 BHP ) but felt so much quicker than the Scooby even though it wasn't ! S14's are better built, better spec but dare I say they are nowhere near as pretty as the S13. Still a great car though !!!!

You don't need RWD to have fun. Best "Fun" car I've owned by a country mile is a 106GTI.
Thought about getting myself one last year. I still miss it to this day.
Finding a standard one is the hard part.

Something like this
Peugeot : 306 GTI 6- LOW MILES - FSH - MET RED
These are excellent cars but a few things you need to watch out for.
Door looms, they break, cost around 125 quid each fitted
Air con pipe work, if you need to replace the lot, its 400+ quid for the pipes (only available from peugeot).
Clutch (this one has had a replacement) is about 350-400 fitted
Side airbag(s) warning light, sensor by the front seat (common fault).
Rear beam (normally higher mileage cars) can wear causing interesting handling, about 400 quid for a recon unit.

Sorry guys, in particular Tony. After changing my mind on what to go for so many times, I'm going for a BMW 328 coupe. Funnily anough, I have a thread open on that too!
