Default Monaro??

Tell me about the monaro peeps. Stick with monaro or go vxr or what?

ive got 16k to play with. Ive been after an e46 m3 for ages, and ive seen a few now and they were mostly **** bags.

Drove a couple and they are not as fast as i remember. Id stil be happy with a e46 m3 if i found a good one. But perhaps i should consider this also.

So what monaros should i be looking for?

Are they tunable? the m3 is pretty much not tunable. Monaro is supercharged right? Would be nice if its easy 600 bhp. that might sway me from the prestigous bmw badge. I thinkt he monaro looks sexy too. The VXR looks a bit ott imo.

So opinions please.

Ive already discounted Tuscan speed 6 (built ****) and the 996 ("worst 911"). But this could be a contender.

look forward to your infos!

cheers
chris

looks like this has been covered before. But not much info on the modding/power side of things or which models is to be preferred.

i suppose just go for the biggest most powerfulest one money can buy. Not too keen on the VXR looks tho.

remap will see 410 right? but 1649kg....

VXR 6.0 already has 400bhp. For a driver its the one to go for as it has the better LS2 engine, better brakes and tweeked suspension. Drawbacks is its not as practical as it has a useless boot and that silly bodykit.

Yes they are tunable; its just a Corvette LS1 or LS2 engine. Most parts are interchangeable.

Remap is only really just a token gesture; It can be set to remove the torque managment on the LS2 engines with fly-by-wire thottle, making the throttle response more snappy. Ask yourself twice if want that on a wet road though

Swapping for a hotter camshaft along with matching valve springs. Done right it'll give an extra 90bhp, it can upset the idle a little and worsen mpg though.

Failing that bolt on supercharger conversions work a treat on both the LS1 and LS2 engines. Although you might want to keep the power levels and boost down if you continue to use the original pistons.

17K? That may get you a bottom of the barrel auto if youre lucky, as well as massive depreciation.

The Monaro would get my vote any day, 13K will get you a nice one, 16K will get an ultra sweet one, 17K would get one with a supercharger already fitted!!

Old model though Hoff and look quite dated imo. Also the Monaro's I looked at had terrble paintwork e.g bubbling and flaking.

I am looking around for one but havent gone to see any yet, met a nice guy on the Monaro forum who popped round with his but didnt get up close and personal with it.

I would love a VRX8 as I agree they do look loads better but I am playing around the £15K mark so they are well out of my bracket
