I owned one for four years, at one point it was running 370bhp!
Good looking cars, get alot of attention thats for sure. Good engine, brakes are rubbish though. Sounds good. Handling is OK for a car of its age but it will need a front strut brace to help the torque steer, some of the LE's come with them fitted as standard.
Find a good Fiat independant specialist to look after it. Some people still think it is an engine out job to change the cam belt, about £1200 if I remember rightly, a good independant should be able to do it for a quarter of that.
Used to be a really popular and friendly club FCCUK.CO.UK
If there is anything specific you want to know let me know.

I also owned one Dave, had it for 3 years and i loved the car albeit standard. The styling is quirky to say the least, some like some dont and as mentioned the handling isnt bad for FWD....The sound of the 5cylinder engine on full chat sounds great.
Only sold it because Ang wanted a fricking Freelander!
I would deffo own another...

Great comments thanks.
Hows Ang mate?
ive seen a mint LE 1998 and very tempted. not interested in engine as its looks are doing it for me.
Alot say it needs constant attention others say they are mustard.
For just over 3k it might be worth a punt
I'd appreciate your impressions on this and if i should ask anything else

i had one a few years ago now.
look out for leaks in the back box (standard) as it can melt the rear bumper.
my engine blew up on mine after having a cam belt change by a so called speclist from the forum, but after a long haul they fixed it.
i would like to go back to them one day. when sitting in the driving seat, they are a very nice place to be

I had one years ago. Had about 6-8 months! Being honest and short. Loved the looks and the power. Sounded great! Interior was really nice but wasn't built great. 2 of my Dash buttons went straight inn was I pressed em.
Clutch went and the Cam belt was due. Cheapest price I got for both was £700-£900. Can't remember!
Dont think I'd have another. Prob just got a bad one. Didn't seem it tho. Here's afew pics.
Had this before! Couldn't fault it. Vtec Vti, 160bhp with the Electric Roof. Bloody loved it.
