Suzuki - ECU repogram required

Suzuki - ECU repogram required
I have a Suzuki Swift Sport which is three years old and done 30,000 miles. Recently the Check Engine Light has come on a couple of times. I have checked the engine and it is still there, although at the wrong end of the car 
The nanny took it to the Suzuki garage and they did a diagnostic. Their 'recommendation' is that it requires an "ECU Reprogram".
Not in all my days have I heard of an ECU reprogram being required for a CEL fault. I have heard of changes for safety or emission reasons, but this seems very odd to me.
Sounds more like, we don't have a clue, let's try plugging the lappy in for five minutes. Oh, and for the five minutes it is £108 plus VAT!
