Default Had 1 weeks temptation of an Evo VI.

Being half term I went with the family down to Dover to visit relatives. Stayed in a Premier Inn next to SVA Imports where there was this Evo VI sitting there on the forecourt.

I have always preferred Imprezas but this one has caused me all sorts of grief. The closer you look the better they are with factory OZ wheels, Brembos, 310 BHP, etc. all the things that you would save up to upgrade from most Imprezas appeared standard on these.

For £7,995, minus whatever I could barter for, I was very close to making an impulse buy but head ruled the heart in the end and I ended up driving the Hawkeye back home.

That one is the Tommy Makinen edition, a bit like our RBs. The silver one is standard but with the Tommy front bumper.

Aaagh, dont say that. I keep looking at the photos and thinking that could have been on my driveway.

I have to keep telling myself, extra fuel, insurance, twice the milage (although still not high at 48k, triple the age of mine.

I think if my wife was up for it I would have gone for it but she wasnt at all. I think that negotiating prices with dealers is child player compared to convincing the wife.

How? That is an extremely good price.

That is a problem and was this combined with even higher fuel and insurance that stopped me, plus the Evos 6s are around 10 years old now. Im 30 next year so will probably wait until then to get something with 300+ BHP.

I am surprised how much I liked the Evo VI. The interior is shocking though but I assume that would all go out for the window when you put your right foot down and turn the steering wheel.

Yep I think I would have been tempted too

There were two Evo's at the Scooby Shootout the other Sunday and to be fair they seemed to out perform all the Scoobs and even Trouts GT3 on the day. Although personally I think the Scoobs look and sound so much better.

Gets ready for a good thrashing

The Evo 6 with the Tommy Makinen front bumper is the best looking car ( I dont like the huge front fog lights). I dont even want to know what my insurance would be for it though as I lost all my no claims when I moved to Ibiza.

They do, I was like a kid in sweet shop. They only seem to have 10 year old cars including some skylines, classic Imprezas and some weird little hatchbacks with front bonnet scoops that Ive never seen before but for aroun that sort of age the Evos are in a different league.

Thats the point I think. My understanding of Evos is that on the track or fast road driving and thrills are the agenda little can touch them. However you are not always wanting to go flat out hard all the time, more often than not you want to chill out while driving quickly and this is where scoobys are so awesome. They are 90% Evo most of the time but offer so much more in style, sound, refinement such as interior (the older ones).

I have to say that this is not from first hand experience just from reading and watching too many reports so if anyone can offer insight Id be interested to hear.

I've fancied a V or VI for a while, but my friend who had a VI rates my STI much better then his Evo.

He said given the choice of the two he'd go for the Evo every time.

Am borrowing a mates V soon, so will be able to compare the two myself.

Ive seen a wide price range for these. They seem to be from £6000 to around £10000. This one had 48,000miles, well documented, 12 months warranty and 310 bhp, I think the standard 6s start at around 275bhp so it that might explain the premium.
