Default Porsche GT2

Guys,

I've got the chance of a GT2. 58 Plate with 4k on the clock. I've just been & driven it & its a very complete car, having had a 996 GT3 a few years back i can say i really enjoyed the drive.
My only bugbear is the price. I dont mind paying it if its residual proof & i'm not going to blow money by keeping it over the winter & possibly marketing it spring time.
Its coming from a private sale & not through an OPC.

Are you requesting opinions or just telling us?

Whatever, that is probably my ultimate car and even test driving it makes me hate you ever so slightly

GO FOR IT!!!!

Needing some opinions from the Porsche elite I'm probably going to take it to help a friend out. One thing that bothers me is that the wheels are white (car is white also) can these be powder coated without devaluing the car ?

My OPC quoted me £80 per wheel to have them a different colour - not a bad price!

Look at the price carefully - GT2 depreciation was pretty horrible initially. Prices seem to have settled a little now.

The 997 is supposed to be much better than the 996, although not driven one myself.

Get it and you can re-pass me on the straights after I have passed you on the twisties

Had a look on pistonheads & autotrader & i could probably squeeze a couple of k out of it to make it worth my while. He's put it into the local Bentley dealership & its sat for a while now but he need the capital.
I'll mull it over but i'll probably go for it.

As for the twisties ...... niiice.

Ps how much are they new ?

I misread your post and for the last five minutes have been trying to work out why it was only £58k. I was going to say if you're not having it for that then I will

But it is slower than the GTR John, even a standard one

List was £131,070.

There is a group test in evo 117 (and probably on the website)

993 GT2
997 GT2
Carrera GT
997 GT3

Optioned up they were £130k plus
Going on residuals based on the 130k, do you reckon hypo speaking that it would lose 10k in 6 months as it has been or do you reckon the depreciation has slowed on them ?

Cars that retailed at £130-150k are now being listed for between £85-110k.

It think the initial hit has slowed, but it has been a bugbear for 997 owners. Hard to answer your question but I think the next year could be better. Just keeping my fingers crossed that the RS doesn't catch a cold - there are a few on the market and prices are softening due to supply and winter!

BTW - it may be chavvy, but I love a white GT2 with black wheels...

Then you've answered your own question. Don't buy it. A GT2 will lose money, just like every car. Unless it's just come out and in high demand (GT2 RS)

Dave, I didn't even notice the sidestrip. That's the car. Bentley are advertising it for him to see if he can get a bite there. They are taking 5k off him but they can if required offer dealer facilities. I'm going to head over tomorrow & have another look. Just trying to weigh it all up as it's a car that I haven't ever thought about & wasn't in the market for something like that.
Ps I've still to purchase the medallion

One quite important thing to check is the warranty.

If it's being sold as SOR then you may be ok as the Porsche warranty is transferable privately BUT - if the sale goes through Bentleys in any way, shape or form you won't have an official Porsche warranty on it. (no matter what a non OPC dealer says)

And that would be my biggest ****-clencher if I were buying it.
I'd expect to lose at least £10k in the next 6 months - these aren't selling too well at the moment and I reckon values will be impacted by the GT3/RS version that people coming out of GT2's are buying. (easier driving, allegedly)

Other than than, what are you waiting for?

Oh, and if you've got it in 12 months time I'll have it off you.

The side strips can be replaced - they only cost a couple of hundred from the OPC.

White, black wheels, no side strips, £80k and you are in dreamland; £85k and you have a decision to make

Hey! I changed my user name for a reason mate, use the new one

On second thoughts, just don't take the p2ss out of me under any username

Good luck with the GT2, looks awesome. I'd love to have something like that, problem is I'll wait until I've had a stroke and then moan I should have done it while I had the chance

Zip, I won't be buying it from bentley, it's just sitting there for them to try & sell it. Cracking idea in relation to the warranty I'll phone OPC in Glasgow tomorrow. 10k isn't what I want to lose. 5-6k would suit me better.
Trout, we are on the same wavelength
On the other hand it's now got me thinking what I could buy for that money ? R8 V10 59 plate.
