decent cars,

2001 should be the k03s turbo, tuning wise its good for a respectable 220bhp

weak points, bushes and rubbers in general, there a pig for split pipes, boost/vacuum pipes, the rear axel beam bshes can knock as do wish bone bushes and top mounts, saving grace you can replace the lot for £200.

windows can drop as they have plastic window holders, £5 fix,
pollen filters can leak water into the cabin
temp senders can go faulty giving poor readings, £35 fix
mafs can go too £70
coilpacks could go when remapping but there £25 each

it might sound like alot, but they are a good car, i have had a few of this veriant engine and they do well,

for more info go onto ukmiv's and have a good nosey round

any more ask, as i have built quite a few golfs now haha

My last car was one of these, had it for 4 years, its up for sale at the moment as I just bought a scooby. Lovely little car, brilliant build quality but that does make it more difficult to work on. Mine was always pretty reliable. Not a huge difference fuel consumption wise to my standard WRX as far as I can tell so far. Nice to drive, but definitely feels underpowered compared to the scooby, reason I went looking for a new car was partly because I wanted more power, but also because I used to be pretty involved in the modified VW scene and its gone a bit downhill in the last year or so.

if your thinking of spending to get one to that spec then you may as well buy a seat leon cupra r, same engine as the tt, its the golf platform but alot better car, stage one remap will see it at a health 260bhp, remaps are £305 from us (cusom code)

lot of work getting a golf plus 250bhp

Great cars. Get a re-map, some proper springs and it will be transformed. (Watch the clutch though.....)
