Default 2009 GTR-good value?

I bought a 2010 model 325d m sport coupe 4 months ago, fully loaded but it's just not doing it for me.
This GTR is for sale around 70 miles away,

I had planned on keeping the 325d until next march, but I am really tempted by this GTR. The only way I could change is if I either get a really good price on the bm or a low price on the GTR,
I'm just asking all the GTR experts on here if this one looks like good value?

I think you should be able to get a satnav model for similar money... But rather nice looking car!

considering a crashed GTR with what looked like fairly reasonable front damage sold for 30k, 09 cars with low mileage look like a bargain at those prices! Looks like a decent example, looks well priced to me

61 plate came out yesterday, 12 plate comes out in just shy of 6mths time.

When these cars go wrong, they are expensive to fix. An out of warranty GTR is a gamble, a big gamble. In addition to this, there are plenty for sale now £36-£38k, £42k seems a little pricy.

Considering the car you're swapping from, have you had a look at the running costs? I suspect this GTR will cost at least 3 x as much to run over your 325d, 3 x the very minimum. (It was 2.5x for me coming from a 2.5T TTRS)

For you...

17mpg down from about 50mpg
£160 road tax upto £460
Insurance, double/treble/quadruple...GTR's are not cheap to insure when insurance companies get hit with £10-£15k bills when a bonnet explodes.

Then tyres £1300-£1600 a set that is probably double what you would pay on your 325d, double whammy being they will wear 2-3x as quick too.

Think carefully, £36-£42k may seem like a bargain for the performance on offer (It is) However, you need to take into account the super car type running costs too.

Coming from a diesel, well running costs were obviously important to you at some point even if they are not now.

36-38k are 08 imports, 39-40k are premium/base models 41-42k is about right for low mileage blackedition

when buying a used gtr try and get one that has had the bell housing replaced as this is known fault on 09-10 cars. Other than that you shouldnt have any issues, ignore Leo the GTR dream killer lol

Insurance isnt too manic, again Leo exaggerates, exploding bonnet is only an issue if you start driving into people/things/cones and can be disabled for off road use, also if it does happen 10-15k is about double than what it will cost in reality....got to love the internet!

Bridgestones can be had for £1000 fitted, dunlops will be nearer £1600

Servicing every 6months/6000 miles, check litchfield imports website for pricing details think it works out about £2-2.5k over 3 years....

I think pretty sound advice to be fair considering he is trading up from a 50mpg TDI

Insurance for me shot up from £650 to £1350 and that's 1 performance car to another. Insurance on a 325d upto a GTR I suspect would treble. Road tax figures are correct, £160 upto £460. MPG is correct, 17mpg. Bridgestones for £1000? Where, the black market? All the posts I read over on GTROC put them at a little more than that, evidence here...

Plenty around (Although this particular 1 has just been sold) £42k is too much for a 2009 car with less than 6mths warranty remaining in my opinion especially when prices are going to start plummeting in March when they all hit 3yrs old. That along with the new superior MY11/12 models now available.

There's 2 sides of the coin fella, if you can see past the running costs then yes they are a good buy for the money, I'd be aiming for sub £40k though.

I appreciate the info about the running costs but my eyes would be open. Up to 4 months ago I had an evo 9 running 400bhp which I only used for the weekends and trackdays. In 2 years I had spent quite a bit on it, suspension, wheels, BBK etc.
I changed to the BM because I wanted something with comfort and a little bit of go that I would be able to drive throughout the week. The trip is showing 37.6MPG-how anyone gets 50mpg is beyond me. I just feel its a little boring-and rather than go back to an evo I would prefer to consider a GT-R.

My main question is in regards to this particular one local to me-it comes back as 31/08/09 so there is nearly 12 months warranty. I would have a budget of around 10k to change-I am just not sure if that would do it.

7000 miles is nothing for that car, engine probably just about opening up! If you can afford it and you want it, go for it, you won't be disappointed!

Test drive it and decide after that... As I have said before, GTR was never on my list, but got talked into driving it - the rest is history, for me it blew everything else out of the water!!

My insurance is 1026, 5 years protected with my missus as a second driver.

Car is better on fuel than my modded sti... By a fair bit and GTR is more powerful!

With a years warranty, much more attractive then

He must have got a very good deal on it to register it 1 day before the 59 plate was released.

I'd still try and get him down to around £40k if you can.

My insurance is about £700 I think, and there is less difference between the economy quoted above and reality than there is between my GTR and the wife's GTI driven on the same route.

Running costs are very similar to an Evo except the tyres and brakes are more expensive.

For a 3.8 the fuel economy is very good, and you have proper thrust.

As said above, the revised model is now out (I don't know about waiting lists) but I suspect that many will be bought on 1/3/12 on a '12' plate, so there will be an increase in trade-ins. There will also be a shift where a glut of cars will go out of warranty over the next 12 months. Combined together, this will force prices down by a step change (e.g. £30-£35k in a years time) for the older cars and then I expect a slower depreciation curve.

The very same thing happened with the E39 M5, a very similar scenario in that it's one of those cars that was worth so much more when it had a warranty because of the risk of £8k+ bills.

So if you can hang on, I think GTRs will reach their most affordable point about Nov 2012.

If I leave it to late 2012 i will be fatter, more bald and older, and I may instead consider a GT3. My mid -life crisis is starting now and will not wait until then!

Don't worry - if you are fatter you won't fit in the seat. So you wont need to cross that bridge.

Get yourself a test drive and you will instantly want one. I'm running in mine at the moment so limited to 4.5K revs and 50% throttle. Took a mate out for a spin last night and did a run in 4th from 1200rpm to 4500rpm using no more than about 40% throttle. The car managed a hole 4psi boost and my mate is saying it's a torque monster (he's owned Nissan Pulsar, S2000 and R33).

And even with the suspension in comfort mode, the softest setting, he said it's the best handling car he's been in.

On a cruise to Romford yesterday, I switched on cruise control at 50mph on the A406 and it did 34mpg on flat roads. Insurance for me about £1450 (because of the area I'm told), about £500 more than my Scoob but thats for a car worth 7 times and includes five track days.

Took a trip down to Malvern to visit friends over the weekend and saw a couple of GTRs. One was coming the opposite way off a roundabout onto a dual lane A road and booted it and then I saw some chap in an Ariel Atom right behind him. I said "sweet" and the mrs said "idiots"
