Default Best Car For 3 Children

Thinking about having another child next year and need to consider what cars are appropriate.

2 Children are 2 & 3 so all children will be in child seats or booster seats for a while yet.

Want isofix ideally and hopefully a car that can sit all 3 on the same row (if possible / legal).

Don't like 7 seaters that have seats directly next to the back window so they are out.

Am thinking Touran, any other suggestions?

Cheers

You can get a special fitment allowing for three seats legally in a 'normal' car - its expensive, but may be cheaper than a new car.

Search in NSR I think there was a thread in there.

Are you thinking of getting a cheap car that the kids can trash with Mcdonalds, vomit, mud, sand, croayons, etc and not bother about the state of the leather ?

If so it's hard to beat a Picasso and throw it away at the end......... IMHO

Touran is a good choice. They key measurement is the width between the rear seat door armrests as they are usually at the height of the edge of the car seats. Another factor worth noting is the length of the bootspace - getting a pushchair front to back rather than side to side is a real benefit. other cars that are particularly wide are previous shape M-class and Discovery 3 / 4. Final tip to all future parents: leather seats (non-perforated) - much easier to clean up ... !

Vaguely remember that - I'll have a look.
Problem may be that I've got and older shape Octavia which has a massive boot, but not much rear legroom, so may not be ideal.

I'll look at those too - Cheers

As long as it's safe, reliable and has reasonable luggage space I'll consider most things, budget £5kish.

volvo v70, rear arm rest is a childs seat, plenty of room for two kids seats, and a large, easy load boot. diesel ones are 45-50mpg everywhere!!

I have 3 kids and have had a Ford CMax since the youngest was born. I the first year, we had two group 2 seats and in the middle, a rear facing for the youngest. Admittedly it was a tight fit, but fit it did. Then as they got older the 2 eldest went into group 3 and the youngest in a group2. They're now all in group3 in the old CMax. None of the seats were ISO fix.

Along with the width between the rear doors, another thing to consider is the side bolsters on the actual seat of the car. eg, the bolsters on BMW 3 series are quite thick on the rear bench will reduce the available space, the bolsters on the CMax are pretty small and flat.

We ended up with a BMW X5 as it has one of the widest rear benches on a road car. I really didnt want a 7 seater neither so the good lady asked for estoril blue and I hunted down a 4.6 V8, shes happy, Im happy and three car seats fit beside each other fine though the eldest doesnt need one now.
