Old man has decided to get rid of his V8 R8. Has asked if I want to buy it off him. I Currently have a Nissan 370Z.
Selling the 370, I'd still be looking to add another £30-35K on top.
What do people recon? The R8 has about 8000 miles on it. 3 years old. The 370 has 7000 miles and is coming up to 2 years old. Worth the extra money over the 370Z?
I love the R8. But trying it hard to justify the extra cash.

Do it do it do it do it do it - you only live once. It's your old boy so the deal must be good??? Run it for 6 months if that is the case and don't lose much

Is it the V8 or V10? Its a lot of money and gotta be a weekend only car imho although a chap at work seems to commute in his. Lovely cars. Used to think nothing of them til I went to a trackday and had a few fast laps in one. Sound lovely even the V8 in the company of 360's and AM V8's.

As an ownership proposition, it's a far nicer car than the Nissan. The R8 will also be quicker, but not `that` much quicker. Apart from when it rains, then it would kill the Nissan.
Would it bother me that it wasn't the V10? Not really, as although it's not as quick in a straight line, it's better in the corners due to it's lighter weight. Still enough grunt to get past most things though. Power to weight is 270bhp/tonne.

No offence but I think the R8 is already looking very dated. It's one of those ultra modern designs that imho then dates very quickly and starts to look naff.
I had a RS4 which has the same engine (though I presume the R8 weighs less?) and I found the power a little underwhelming to be honest.
I'd keep the Fairlady for a little while longer and then buy a car that really flicks your switch

Dated is the last thing an R8 looks. It is still very rare to see another R8 kicking about. And when I do, they still look awesome. Unlike the plethora of 911's I see every week.

I'd do it (well, not me personally as I don't like the R8 particularly) while you have the chance.
But, are you going to have to sell the Nissan privately to fund the R8?
It's very, very tough at the moment for selling cars of value...
Good luck though

I've got till next March to decide what I'm doing. Trying to shift a RWD car as we're approaching winter is a tall order.
A quick look on Pistonhaeds show R8's going for early £50k's now. So if I can secure his with a starting number of 4, then I will probably do it. I even get a few years to buy it off him too. As I'm looking to move home.

It's just my opinion as I said, we will all differ in what looks good to our eye and what doesn't.

For a car of that ilk they dont seem to have depreciated as much as I thought. 2007 V8 for £50k which was what £80k new? Especially when 132 for sale on just PH!!
