Default Which Fast car for 2k

Looking at options for the mrs, i want 5 doors reliability and economy 30+ and a decent turn of speed when required.

Thats not a subaru as they are way too thirsty.

+1 for the Cupra. There's a couple on eBay at not too much over 2k.

I'm on a similar hunt for a commuter car. As I have to do a 60 mile round trip I want something comfy with a bit of poke if needed but not too thirsty as it needs to sit in traffic/not bankrupt me.

I've been looking at 2.0 engines and below so 206 GTi seems to come in at this price.

You can also get Hyundai Coupes for under 2k as well as a wildcard.

VW golf GTi isn't bad.

Also happy to take thoughts on this though!

5t.

Suffer electrical problems, albiet niggly ones. Good cars though but as mentioned before Octavia Vrs is pretty much the same car but Skoda consistantly score highly in reliability tables, don't know why they are more reliable than VW/Audi/Seat as they all use much the same parts bin.

I picked up an x reg 525 se BMW last night and its a blast, I had completely forgotten how good these cars were, manual gearbox is a must and then you have a great all rounder . Mine with BMW history leather and the M-sport toys was less than 2k.

Octavia VRS is probably the most sensible choice.

driving 'spirited' around milton keynes about 23 mpg pretty sure over 30 is possible if you want it to be. I think the 'official' combined figure is 30.1 mpg with extra urban listed as 39mpg

Somthing like this.

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...11jl?logcode=p

192bhp

Don't actually buy one without leather though. they are hard to sell on again hence the low price of this.

An ST200 Mondeo will do 30mpg average as long as you're not a tool with the right foot... comes with loads of space, lots of kit (climate, Recaros, full electrics, etc), sound great, Ford parts prices, 5 doors and isn't too shabby if you sink the right foot with the ~200bhp V6 engine.

I've got one for a runaround and it's a cracker, 62k miles, history, etc.

Cheers,
Grant

Civic VTI - either the 1.6 or 1.8 will do the jiob and bulletproof as long as you change the oil on a regular basis

+1. Excellent idea. I'd totally forgotten about them. They really hold their value, don't they? I had civics like that years ago and they've hardly changed in price since then. Seeing those adverts has actually made me seriously consider getting one as a stop gap, as I could really be doing with getting rid of my current car (ST170) before it turns into a pile of rust. It's an 04 and has only done 50k, but I've had to get countless bits of it sprayed already to keep the rust away. It's becoming a pain in the ****, so time to get something newer and better,. Only problem is I don't know what...
