Just ordered my new Golf GTI this afternoon. ![Thumb](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif)
3 Door in Reflex Silver
19" Wheels
Performance Pack
Winter Pack
Dynaudio
Satnav
Big thanks to `Wish` for recommending his dealer, who was able to match the `Drive the deal` price, which my local dealers were unable/willing to do.
Looking at around April delivery. Just right for the nice weather.

Test drove both the GTI & GTD back to back (Both on 19" wheels). The GTD was noticeably softer, and for long runs, obviously the better car for mpg.
The GTI had a good ride. It's quite stiff, but quite supple too. You can tell it has a bit of sharpness to the chassis. The steering and brake feel/power are all good.
Bare in mind, the Golf is an everyday hot hatch, that's not as hardcore as say a Megane RS or Focus RS. And for what it does, and how it goes, it really is a very good car, and the performance is just about right for what I want.
Compare the ride, steering, brakes etc to the BMW 428i I test drove, and the Golf make the BMW feel aloof and disconnected.

The 4 series has had a bit of a bashing from the more "honest" motoring press. Even the 435i is apparently pretty numb - a real shame.
I think the GTi is a great blend of comfort and performance. Looks nicer than an M135i too ;-)

They introduce you to a dealer who is prepared to massively discount. All the paperwork is then done with the dealer supplier who kicks back a fee to Drive the Deal.
Only downside is that they may not want to part ex and the dealer could be the other end of the country.

You don't need to joke, I think the M135i is a proper marmite car!
Always had a soft spot for VW Golf. Since I was a kid sitting in my brother's MK2 GTI to my own MK5 GTI before I got the Scoob. Nice!

Of course but as said below, it's very Marmite (I like it, plenty don't) whereas the Golf is generally regarded as good looking by most including me.
I've had a mk2,3 and 4 and driven a mk5; not perfect but all pretty good (only the R32 in mk4 form though).
I do like the 7; quality item.
