New S3 or new Golf R
Ok last post honest, I've thought I'd got the deal of the century on a golf R until at 530 tonight one Audi dealer worked the magic and nailed the price.
So I have more or less the same deals on either car, now I'm undecided
I can't get the new s3 saloon as this requires a large deposit, just something Audi have stipulated, the 3 door and fastback can be done with minimal deposit.
So it's either a fastback s3 with bang and olofson speakers. Or
A golf R with 19s and winter pack.
Where would you put ya brass, if this choice was yours

My jury is out in looks on the Audi though, doesn't look stunning if you know what I mean.
I'd much prefer the saloon but it's just not feasible for me....but you do get leather as standard, which is a bonus

S3. Looks better, has the better interior (Get the Super sports seats) and will hold it's value better too. Oh, and it's faster.
Was thinking of selling both my cars and getting a S3 Saloon a month or so ago. But I'm going to wait another 2 years and hope Audi does an RS3 Saloon with Manual gearbox.

Errmmm, why not do ONE thread listing all your options instead of one for each?!
I'd go Golf just because most Audis get on my wick (R8 excepted. Strangely I quite like the new Q5 RS too….)
Just specced one up to about the same level as our M135i - £37k - ouch! To be fair ours is just over £35k but I got £6k off - I bet you can't do that with an Audi?!!

Weirdly enough no Lol, but I'm close so far it's 4k, what did you add to get to 37k I'm presuming you specked a saloon, because I don't think adding everything gets that high.
I'm only gonna add sports seats for the quilted look, b and o speakers and possibly technology pack....
Rest of the drivel can do one. Although I may pay an extra 90 for hold assist as that's nice to have in traffic.
You'll be able to get 6k off cos the xdrive is imminent hehe

I started with a Sportback and added "mid" speakers, metallic paint, mid range nav, parking sensors, heated seats (or are they standard), tiptronic, park assist and cruise to get to about the same level as ours.

It's weird you would have though they would,
Wonder why they mess about like that.
It's like that golf r they show it with 19 inch Cadiz wheels which I found out today can only be bought outside of the UK, we only get the 18s or 19 inch petorias, and it's was down to weight of the wheel and co2

Specced up an R to similar levels too (I'm bored…!) and it comes in at a nadge under £35k. Leather seats are an expensive option but some other stuff seems fairly reasonable.

Yeah the r doesn't get leather well it does it's half leather, but you get sat nav is standard
It's horses for courses, which is what's annoying me,
Sat nav or full leather, I had to admit the quilted s3 looks great, dash will prob be better on the s3 but just to get auto lights and cruise it's extra.......but cruise I'll be honest I never use much anyway, auto lights are a nice to have though .....
The active suspension on the golf, is one I was tempted with but unsure if I,ll actually use it...
I've just done insurance quote and it's peanuts for either 210 quid for the year lol.
Where would you chuck ya money matte golf or audi,

Only Audi I actually like is the R8. Beautiful thing.
My father was keen on his hot golfs and I now have an R32 as a daily driver.
I'd go for the Golf, they're fantastic cars to live with.

I'd Golf it too.
I'm biased though; the Golf R range always seem to have the edge over the S range for driving dynamics and the current Golf chassis is ace even on the base models.

Audi uses Quattro which is a kind of Haldex system, Golf use Haldex 4 motion but a later newer version than Audis
Audi get full Leather
Golf Half leather
Audi get a stereo
Golf Gets Sat Nav
I the opposite i see loads of S3s but no Rs
im leaning towords Gold at the moment, for a few reason
I get sat Nav
19ich wheels look better the audi only does 18s
auto lights etc are standard on the golf, but an extra on the S3
still a chuffin hard choice though :/

The car was without Mag ride, which I think is a waste of time anyway. A sporty car shouldn't need a button to be sporty. I went for passive suspension (as per the test cars)

I'd disagree with that statement. I've just ordered a GTI with 19" Wheels. Have a couple good test drives (Several hours) on all sorts of roads, and the ride was firm but supple. 19" wheels certainly didn't make it feel crashy.

well went to Audi today, which was a mistake, sat in the new S3 lovely car.
So I specced one up with the spotty sales guy then proceeded to drag manager out and bum him.
Spec was
5 door Hatch stronic
Sports quilted leather seats
Comfort pack ( lights wipers mirror and parking )
B&O speakers
Sat Nav
Hold Assist
I got the deal I want, but wont commit till the 26th of the month. I did fancy the new saloon but its a large deposit for that, due to how Audi are pimping it so I backed off.
The one thing that I saw was maintenance plan they had 2 options
34 quid a month for servicing and maintenance
43 for servicing and tyres and maintenance
Which if the service is 300 + maybe a good idea, and in 3 years I will need new tyres and at 150 to 200 a corner, might be worth it Dunno

Why not commit till the 26th?
A intermediate service is only about £125. A Major service on an S3 shouldn't be any more than £300 anyway. Why not phone up the service desk and get full price on servicing?
And with the tyres, there must be a catch? If I was getting all my Tyres free, I'd be taking every corner at 1g. Why would I care? There must be a stipulation as to how many Tyres the plan will pay for. I'd assume so anyway.

I promised the wife I wouldn't spend anything till payday. Xmas was expensive this year.
The maintenance will be like lease maintenance, you'll get tyres if it's fair wear and tear, I'd probably say you'll get them once in that 3 year stint, possibly 2 if your around town a lot.
My scooby didn't need doing till 30k miles because all I did was mainly motorway.
I'll try th service element and see what they say
