Default Mint MK2 Escort

One for you Ford Escort fans, I have the chance to buy an almost totally rust free Ford Escort 2 door 1.1. It's a 1978 car been garaged for the last 13yrs the only bits of rust on it are where the spare wheel goes and thats about 10cm x 3 cm hole that would be a very easy fix along with a couple of small bubbles on the rear panel where the trim strip goes. Apart from that it is Like NEW and that really is no exaggeration. It has 44000km and is left hand drive, it's out here in Croatia where they only recently started salting the roads and the old boy that owned it was a mechanic.

It starts and runs sweet as a nut, needs an exhaust and the brakes cleaning up then it's a goer, really can't stress enough how clean this car is, I was totally gobsmacked by not being able to find anything else wrong with it, it's that good. Only down side is the 1.1 engine. Interior is Very clean too with red velour, the rubber floor liner is as good as it left the factory.

So the big question is what is it worth, I'm sure if some ford boys saw it they would be dribbling to get their hands on a shell like this, original paint no rusty door bottoms or arches, bulkhead, window rubbers all good pretty much every bit of the body looking like it's a couple of years old.

Help I can have it for about £800 then probably needs £500 spending on it and I could drive it to uk it's that good.

Pictures? sounds like a great chance you have there but I would imagine the left drive makes it a lot less desirable (and the 1.1 engine! )

For someone who wanted a standard car it would be a good buy.

For me the best thing would be the 2 door bodyshell which could be the basis for a rally car build. The fact that it is left hand drive is not a problem ( my own car is left hand drive) as conversion to the right is easy.

I need a spare shell and at £800 it would be a bargain

There are a couple of MK1's here, one has been completely ba$tardized with a 2.9 ford lump and had the front valance cut away to accommodate it and the other has been stripped 1.3 engine and box junked couple of dents, but has been sat on grass for a couple of years, real shame because i'd have bought it if it was complete as that's what i'm really after and the 1.3 was not too bad.

Decided against the MK2 as it's not what I started out wanting and the old dear is not willing to be flexible on the price. I't quite funny as old fords are really not popular here (forgive the pun) and i've seen quite a few left rusting to pieces, if I had the money I could go pick up 4 mk1 shells in the space of a few days.

Croatia are in the EU now and the cars are over 10yrs old (obviously) so no duty. Transport is the biggest problem and whether or not the cars have documents (log book) need a trailer or better still a 2/3 car transporter with a trailer. The other MAIN problem is once they know an English guy is interested the price goes up, but I do have friends who could buy on my behalf, then your looking at 1200 miles each way plus any running about, the one with the 2.9 engine in is in split so another 400 miles each way.

So need around £2k total travel expenses here and back with all the faffing that will no doubt take place and 3/4 cars at around a grand a pop to make it worth while.

I'm interested in the MK 2 you mentioned, infact would be interested in any decent MK 2's. Must be 2 door though and any being automatic would be a bonus. Maybe interested in a MK 1 too

Yeah but there would have to be a reasonable profit in it for me to consider doing it as well as some money up front so I don't end up stuck with the vehicles and out of pocket.

If you can get a Mk1 or a Mk2 into the UK for a grand, I'll have two

And I am being deadly serious!

Lol, yeah I think I could sell 20/30 of them, but you need to read what I said, which is they would cost me about a grand each out here, (maybe I did'nt make that clear enough) then transport costs plus a reasonable profit. not sure what the cost of a car transporter is because I recon i'd need quite a few to make it worth while and a reasonable price back in the UK.

Think it's a bit of a non starter tbh, I'd be better off just taking a finders fee so anyone that want's one organise your own transport and i'll lead you to them for a small fee.

No which is why I asked the question, I can go get a 2 door mk1 and the mk2 i mentioned, the mk1 needs a lot of work but as thread title mk2 is as mint as they get, and they both have papers, I also know of another 3 mk1's.
