Hi,

today we had an SC36 billet that didn't spool until 5500 RPM. :wonder:

This particular turbo was supplied by us and fitted by someone else, we noticed some nasty headers on the car, equal length but with a woven steel flexy in the middle of them, as a suspect we swapped them out for a set of ported standard oe unequal length ones, spool improved by 500 RPM but still poor, time to take the turbo off and inspect. :brickwall

Inside the exhaust housing we found this.

Attachment 53325

You can clearly see the woven steel flexy sat inside the snail. :(

Attachment 53326

Once removed it looked like one of the village people had lost his tash. :D

Turbo survived, spool is back to normal now we can map the car properly.

Lesson here is avoid cheap headers, stick with a known good quality brand, this could have been very expensive for the customer, luckily its cost a few hours labour and a few gaskets, could have been another new turbo. ;)

cheers
Kev

Wow! :( At least, seemingly, you've got to the bottom of it.

(I've always uttered the silent mantra to myself never to touch headers/uppipes with flexi areas!)

Wait for the results with baited breath.... :)

Based on my knowledge, a good efficient set-up could return 460bhp based on 10bhp per 1lb of airflow on normal pump fuel. 2.5's are not normally the most efficient. I know this is rather simplistic though.

That's why I remarked on the 500bhp figure. :)

Well if anyone has any maybe from an 05 - 06 give me a shout

What lb wheel did you say was in the SC46 TS? ;)

Aren't the figures - BHP - (shall we say) a tad optimistic? :)

It reminds me of the chat we had the other week Shaun (regarding dyno runs), and I agree with Kev. There are dyno`s and there are dyno`s..... The funny thing is, I was "expecting/predicting" more torque and less bhp:wonder: All that matters to me though is how it feels on the road

stevemoir 17 November 2011 07:56 PM

Or Kev you could sell me the ones off the drag car lol :)

alanbell 17 November 2011 09:22 PM

Kev is that mesh the flexi bit off the headers ????

joz8968 17 November 2011 09:27 PM

Yep!

alanbell 17 November 2011 09:31 PM

wow, pleased ive got rcms headers.

Kev

How much is your SC42 BB/Billet Twin Scroll turbo, again?

Does it have the regular OEM 57mm (2.25") inlet?

Do you know the PSI rating of the w/g spring?

When you mail them out, are all the openings plugged (to prevent crap form getting in)?

And...

Does the courier driver get confused/frightened..... as he hears them spooling in their box? :D :lol1:

Bicco 23 November 2011 11:31 AM

Any news on the SC46TS yet? Everything else sorted now, may be getting a little excited, won`t be long till its sorted! ;) :)

Hi,

they are £1295.00 but we need your old twin scroll exhaust housing back at the moment, if you have not got an old housing to exchange we have to charge £250.00 to cover it. :thumb:

Whilst not an ideal situation it is about to get resolved as we have a new Twin scroll cast housing just about ready for testing, it will do away with the messy exchange business but will put the price up to around £1500.00. :)

Attachment 53327

They have a standard size inlet and a 1 bar waste-gate actuator and are packaged properly with the turbo in two plastic bags surrounded by polystyrene wotsits and a cardboard outer box. ;)

The boxes are soundproof so as not to worry the courier as to what's inside. buzzing. :D

all prices + vat

cheers
Kev

Hi,

I will have one somewhere but for now here is one on an Evo 8 running "V" power. :thumb:

Attachment 53328

All our GT30 Billets are .63 ;)

Ciaran 23 November 2011 06:09 PM

cheers Kev.
I actually already have a GT30R 0.82 fancy a PX?

Considering the 0.63 billet as want good midrange.
Will be running Daz davies old front mounted turbo set up would imagine a 0.63 billet would
spool pretty well on the 2.1 :)

joz8968 23 November 2011 10:18 PM

Kev, when I get round to buying a SC42 TS, would you, effectively, do a P/X on my existing 20g?

Or is that a 'policy' which SC doesn't practice?

Hi,

we can PX our own Billets back in but to be fair they fetch more on the forums or E bay, very sought after. :thumb:

Hope the above helps.

Cheers
Kev

joz8968 24 November 2011 03:05 PM

Okay. This is a 'regular' 20g anyway - not a SC billet job.

No worries, I'll sell it on here (hopefully!).

Hi Kev, do you have a graph of a gt30 on a 2.5 running on vpower?

Hi,

we haven't I am afraid as the GT30 Billet would be far to much for the 2.5 block, in our opinion and I state our opinion only, we wont push the 2.5 block more than 450 BHP due to its thin liners. :(

If yours is a re linered block it would be very interesting to see how a GT30 Billet behaves on a 2.5, spool should be even better. :thumb:

Cheers
Kev

billsandhu 25 November 2011 12:56 PM

Yes Kev my block is relinered.

dazdavies 25 November 2011 12:59 PM

I could well be willing to be a test mule here Kev, as I'm considering going from the billet 35 that I currently have to a Billett 30. My reasoning is that I'm not seeing the best out of the 35 but don't really want to push the pinned 2.5 any further to get the best out of it.

So I can have the same sort of power (600bhp) with a billet 30 but have better spool.
Once I can afford a gearbox upto the job I'll give you shout.
