Some mornings I get in and feel like working really hard, so I look at the BBS until the feeling goes away http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Showtime,

I know what you mean!

Now and then I get the same feeling, usually when I've got no Carp magazines to read or when it's ten to five on a Friday.

I get round it by looking out of my office window at my scooby below, and then as if by magic .... I get all inspired.....

To see whats going on on the BBS!!

My company has installed a proxy server, so they can check who is surfing the web when they're supposed to be working.

Our management is given a report of the top offenders of company resources who are then given a warning!!!

This is for a (french) stockbroker, in hongkong.

Big brother is watching...

Cheers
Andy

Proxy servers is it? Ha - no worry. We employ about 4000 people in the uk alone so I don't reckon they'll be trawling through our log files. Also (cos I'm soooo clever) I reset my proxy to use our NY office's. Most users can't do that (registry is closed) so I can set it to whatever I want. As we use DHCP the IP addresses get renewed every couple of weeks as well. I guess if they keep the login name it might be a prob. Anyway, life's too short to worry about that!

(Sorry to anyone I put into a coma with this post)

As most of us are probably on "leased-lines" at work, my view is that if the web's not being used, the money spent on the leased-line is being wasted http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif

ah well, it now 9:20, been here since 7:00 - guess I'd better do a bit of work now http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

hmmm - my attitude on this one is...

if the company is prepared to pay people for the time they spend smoking in the smoking room then they shouldn't be bothered about people browsing a few web pages during work time.

If you have to sign a code of conduct type document to get internet access - then make sure you read what you are signing!- then act accordingly.

finally - ref proxy server - most of these use text 'log ' files - to which all users must have read/write access - they are typically very big files - but still possible to edit them and replace your own ip address/username with those of your manager !!! - at least this is what I have vowed to do if anyone ever challenges me about my browsing activity - ho ho. If the proxy server is running Microsoft Proxy 2.0 - then these reside in a share called \servernamelogs and are named consecutively - with the last 4 figures representing the date. Have fun !

cheers,

Paul W

Forget Microsoft Technet, when we've got Scoobytechnet!! Work and Surf - thats the idea!

So guys and Gals, One of my NT boxes has not been used for a few weeks, user away at head office. Come to use it the other day, It will not let me log into the domain. Error - "The Trust Relationship between the workstation and the primary domain failed!" The comms are all oK - any ideas?

Back to scoobynetting
Hey was n't Donni superb....... ;-)

NT question serious!
cheers

Beef 08 March 2000 02:20 PM

Try taking it out of the domain and putting it back in again. You may have to remove it from the domain, delete the account under swerver manager, and drop it back into the domain that way. In extreme cases, you may have to change the machine name.

If that doesn't work, lemme know and I'll think of something else.

Richard F 08 March 2000 02:21 PM

How about deleting the machine's account in the domain (server mgr) and re-adding it?

Probably complete b0ll0x but hey, you never know...

I'd call our IS department.... Actually I wouldn't - they're a waste of space.....

Beef, & co,

This could catch on!
Well deleting the workstation account from Server Manager and re-adding it - no joy there, so Beef's Techtip 2, was the next step, created a new workstation name under server manager, went to the NT Workstation and changed it's name to the new one, rebooted and hey presto, I can log into the Server again.

Nice one guys
thanks a million
cheers
H

Ps. Attempting to justify the ISDN Bill at the end of each quarter. "Well Boss Scoobytechnet is a new discussion newsgroup for NT problems!, Look I've just received help with this NT problem, and from their advice the problem is now sorted, in only 10 minutes - great hey!"

If it's MS Proxy then you can - I know, I do it on my LAN. You get an NT username logged against every request in the log files. With something like WebTrends you can then run a report which lists the 10 top sites visited per user name.

But as I'm in charge of the Proxy server..... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
